Canyon Seat Post Clamp - HOW MUCH!!!
Discussion
My old (2014) Canyon Endurace CF needs a new seatpost clamp. Can't find it on Canyon website despite using their parts finder from the frame number.
Ask them direct and it's in stock and £39. Or, if I actually want it, it's £50 as delivery is £10.
Oh and now you've been mug enough to order it - it's 2-3 weeks away.
The canyon seat post is an alloy hoop that pinches together to constrict the top of the frame seat tube and pinch it against the saddle seat post. Just like most other bikes.
The old one was useless - forever slipping when tightened to the correct torque
Can anyone advise me if there's any harm in using a boggo usual one from anywhere at a £5.00 instead of the Canyon part?

Measure the external diameter of the seat tube where the clamp should sit, ideally using a set of calipers but if you don't have any then a steel rule across the diameter should be accurate enough indication. It'll be one of 5 standardised sizes; 28.6 mm, 30.0 mm, 31.8 mm, 34.9 mm, or 36.4 mm.
It'll probably be 34.9 mm.
bear in mind when measuring that because the seat tube is designed to expand / contract with the clamp, the actual diameter will be +/- 0.5 mm or so from the nominal sizes listed above, e.g. if it measures at 35.1 mm, that'll still be a 34.9 mm clamp.

Thanks for the reply - I have measured up as suggested and ordered two! clamps.
The proper sized one fits over the top of the carbon seat tube, with a little lip to keep it in the correct place at the top of the tube. The lip is less than the thickness of the carbon, so the clamp will constrict the seat tube without touching the seat post.
I don't know why the original Canyon clamp slipped. At one stage I opened it up and filed the slot in the clamp wider as it was closing together before tightening on the seat pillar. It was also using a bolt which tightened into a blind hole, and I was worried that it was bottoming, so I shortened the bolt as well. Ultimately it was the bolt that failed as I was clumsy with allen key. I do use a torque wrench.
Yes, I've always used carbon grip as it was carbon/carbon using the Canyon VCLS split post.
My next step will be to fit a second, smaller clamp directly onto the post as a mechanical stop. I will have to remove the positioning lip so as not to impose a high point load on the seat post. Also ensure a good clamp to clamp fit to prevent a bending load when it has my weight on it.
