Have son number 2 who wants to use my Boardman but doesn't want to use cleats, I see that there are SPD cleats available with one flat side to the pedal (predominantly mountain bikes) but does this exist in SPD SL and if so anyone used them?

Don't want to faff around keep swapping the pedals..!!

This might be no help as I am not able to answer the question about whether SPD SL are available, but I do use SPD on my mountain bike.

I find them to be a great solution - if I’m on a long ride or trails I clip in, if I’m off to the pub or on an unfamiliar trail that might be really muddy, I wear flats.

If I was being overly critical, the flats are a little small for MTB - I guess this wouldn’t be such an issue for the road. They feel light enough so may work for you (but I do understand that you guys are always in pursuit of weight saving).

Sorry if no help

Do clip in plates exist for SLs to turn them into a flat pedal? If so, fit them for him to fide and remove them when you ride.

Also available from pedal-plate.cc if Decathlon are out of stock.

We use them when camping for popping to shop/pub etc on our road bikes with normal shoes on. They do offer a bit more grip than pedalling without.
