Professor Patricia Wiltshire, an independent councillor for Ashtead Common, said: “If you've got adults there, and there will be a lot of adult males, and you have children, we know the problem of checking people. They have to be checked because of dangers to children. All that sort of thing has to be considered because it could be really quite serious, and you never know it could end up children being molested, goodness knows what. I’m not saying it would but it’s that sort of possibility."

She later "clarified" her remarks
"Of course, I did not want to give the impression that there would be aggressive males at the BMX park. I was trying to express a fear of a resident who contacted me to say that she feared children would be intimidated by 'aggressive cycling'. It is unfortunate that my words have been interpreted negatively but I was genuinely trying to save the bike park for existing users to use freely.”

Been following the Dorking Jumps bike park fiasco for a while as its not far from me. To be fair to the other councillors on the committee they were generally for the jumps, but the outcome was they must tread cautiously as money is tight currently.
Partica is just a stupid cow. I suspect a feminist of the wrong sort. A couple of the councillors pulled her up in the meeting for that statement she made. She strikes me as having early onset dementia

Was that the old Olympic bmx track?
Looks like a great facility hopefully they’ll get the funding they need and no bmx ridding child molesters will prevail.
I guess it’s a shame though if a free to use area suddenly becomes something you have to pay for. I suppose there’s plenty of other free routes in the area though?
ETA just seen that BMX was at the velodrome during the olympics. I just had some memory of the Surrey hills connection to the olympics, I guess it was just the road race up the zigzag etc
