Getting back into trail riding and my old 661 hard plastic armour is just too big and cumbersome. I've seen people wearing like neoprene flexible armour. What do you wear and what is a good option for safety wear that you can still ride up the trails in.

I have found the G form knee pads comfy and light and offer enough protection for trail riding. After an off at BPW though, i felt I needed more protection on the sideof the knee and went for the Troy Lee raids. Bloody comfy and lots of protection, I use them all the time now but, I find they can be a bit warm when climbing. As fr elbow pads I bought Alpine stars as they are slim and will fit in my Boarding jacket, however they are not comfy so I'm in the market for new ones.

I use these:

They feel like a thick/ stiff sock and I can pedal in them all day. Or if I’m doing a particularly big climb I just roll them down to my ankles.

Seriously, ignore the advice of I have this, it's great....

Buy on fit. Try them on. They all fit differently and given they can chafe like hell if they don't fit you properly, you could spend a fortune on trial and error. Or even worse, slip when they take a hit.

I'm looking for a set too. Not full on downhill hard armour, but enough to protect in a spill on a trail. Need to be pedalling friendly. Anyone experienced the Alpinestars stuff?

I’ve been using Race Face pads this year and do not recommend. The fit is ok and protection works but the stitching around the padding burst on both knee pads first ride out! No incidents. One strap also started to come free. The elbow pads have several pull holes in the fabric.

Not what you’d expect from pads costing what they do. Spend the extra on POC

I like 7IDP Knee Pads and IXS Elbow Pads. My kids have the same. Comfortable on long DH rides and loads of protection.

And I’ve taken many spills and the POCs still look good hehe

I have tried various over the years searching for a comfortable trail riding pad and I think anything that has Velcro straps will end up digging into the skin or slipping.

As above Fox Enduro D3O are a plain sleeve that goes quite high up the thigh so right under your shorts. I can honestly say they are the first ones I have forgotten I was wearing.

I do have quite slim legs so obviously like saddles it is very personal.

I have a SixSixOne Evo Compression Short Sleeve Jacket for uplift days.

Fox Launch D30 is what I use. They have stood up... ok... The sleeve have a few holes in them and they have stretched a little with washing but at the moment ok with 1-2 uses per week regularly.

They are fairly breathable, but will still soak up the sweat, so frequent washing.

Impact wise I've never had an issue, they do lack some lateral / side protection and are quite minimal. They do pedal very well though. Just a bit pricey for what they actually are and you can't buy the sleeves separately, or not that I've found.
