Morning

I have an early ACME prototype powered bike that I need a rear tyre for. The issue is they wear quickly in a similar way to a normal tyre does on a turbo trainer, but also puncture easily when debris gets stuck between the drive wheel and the tyre.

I have on now a Schwalbe Marathon Plus which addresses the puncture issue but wears quickly.

One possibility is a trainer tyre, people say these are deathtraps on the road, but then the rest of it largely is anyway.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Continental Gatorskin. Pretty sure they would survive anything this side of a direct hit from a Barratt 50 cal.

That’s gold. How fast does it go and does it count as a motorbike or something else?

Top speed is low 20's but feels faster because of everything going on, e.g. approaching a set of red lights simply brake, lift the engine off the rear wheel, ease off the throttle or decompress, all of which are hand controls.

It is a Trojan Mini-Motor registered as a 50cc motorbike. The engine is fully (but not easily) detachable so in theory can go on any bike.

It is however heavy, maybe 20kg, and sits high up. Even on a robust older frame if you stand in front of the bars and wiggle the bike you can see the frame flex.

Sounds absolutely terrifying!

Could you do a video when you have the new rubber in it?

It does sound lively.

Gatorskins aren't invincible.

Marathon Plus I think is tougher.

I wonder if there is something you can gelan from considering:
  1. tread depth
  2. rolling resistance
  3. Puncture Score
All of which can be obtained from here?
