As per the title?

£15 from Halfords of £35 fancy blue Tacx one?

Will there be any difference?

No, not in my opinion.

I have a 'fancy' red Vittoria training tyre I got 2nd hand, still fine, have look on eBay for some.

But I tend to use a normal slick tyre most the time, as I cba swapping my tyre over all the time smile

Get the £15 Halfords and see how you go, for that price worth a try I think.

The cheapo Halfords one is fine.

It's literally just an absolutely rock hard compound.

However tempting it is to go for a little spin round the block with it fitted as you can't be bothered swapping it back for the continental GP... Don't. Lethal.

I've not been impressed by my tacx one, its started to crack on the sidewalls, only 18 months old kept in garage.

I use an old road tyre which I would trust on the road anymore... Am I missing anything by not purchasing a turbo specific tyre?

I wondered the same so used an old road tyre on my old turbo. It was fine for a while, but failed spectacularly midway through what was supposed to be a 90 min spin. Just got far too hot. Used turbo specific tyres afterwards!!

Got a Neo now, so thankfully don't have to bother smile

Used some old Vittoria tyres on my turbo for about four years. The rear tyre finally failed last year when it developed a flat spot. Think the tyre carcass itself collapsed. Not bad for a tyre that was 16 years old, but had never seen a road, and only started seeing usage in 2016 due to the bike being stored.

I had some Continental Grand Prix's in the garage, so chucked one of them on. Still going strong over a year later.

I guess turbo specific tyres have their use. However, I haven't had any issues so far with normal road tyres. Will see how long the Continental lasts.
