Im thinking of building up a dyno hub front wheel. However, looking at dyno front lights all the ratings are in Lux not Lumens.

I understand the differences and what they are both a measure of but I can't find even a rough idea of what light might equate to what.

Ive got a front battery light rated at 450 lumens (FWE from Evans) which works perfectly for me. I realise you can't say 'well thats equivelant to xyz LUX due to what they actually measure and differences in design etc. A ball park figure is all im after (or soemwhere i can look it up).

A lot of affordable lights on somewher like SJS seem to be in the 35 LUX range ( or a bit more) but i dont want to be wasting money to find i bought one thats too dim an need another, or conversly that i didnt need to spend so much.

cheers.

I used the buy the cheapest LED Dynamo front lights for my commuter bikes and even they were perfectly adequate!

15 Lux, 80/90 Lumen.

Cheap USB led lights are pretty crap at actually illuminating where you’re going; cheap LED dynamo fronts are really good.

nice one. I had read that dyno front lights at much lower lumen ratings were veryvery good due to their desgins. (nothing i read put an actual number on it like you have though!) Thanks!

I've been using a cheapish, £40, battery powered front light to commute with for the last 5 years. I can see where I'm going and the battery still lasts well.

I like the idea of dynamo lights but unless you go for the cheapest chinese ste, battery lights are hard to beat.

Good battery lights are indeed good. Mine works well. I like riding at night and battery lights do run out eventually, Id like the abikity to just ride and not worry about planning routes around battery life or taking a pocket full of spare lights

I can understand that.

If its dark I only cycle to work and back. If my front light dies I can switch my flashing light to a steady beam to get by. I wouldn't want to do that on a road I didn't know.

Anyone have any ideas why the standlight doesn't work? I picked up https://www.wiggle.co.uk/busch-muller-iq-myc-plus-... the other day and it runs fine on my folder (whch has a dyno hub) but the standlight doesnt operate (instructions say it is autmatic, cant be disabled etc). Any ideas?

As for brightness, its not as bright as my battery powered light on any of its settings but its not bad. Enough light to bimble down an unlit lane for example but I couldnt want to descend a hill i didnt know with it as my only light. However without a standlight its useless tbh.

There seems to be a big jump in price to properly bright dyno lights so the 700c dyno hub might have to wait. we'll see.

Is it definitely the MYC Plus? - asking as the MYC N doesn't have the Standlight feature.

Only other thing it can be is if you haven't run it for a little while to charge the internal capacitor - looking at the guide, it says approx 3 minutes.

Other than that, faulty and get it replaced. Shouldn't be a problem as both Wiggle and B&M have a decent returns rep.
