Bib Shorts for Large Derriere
Discussion
As per the title really, I am trying to get my first pair of bib shorts at the moment.
I currently have Gore C3 bib tights and have always found that the pad isn't where I want it to be, I can get it so it is just covering my sit bones at the start of my ride but I find that it will move after a while and I need to adjust it again later. I think this may be due to the fact I have a big ass, I have to pull the tights further up my back if you see what I mean to try and get the pad to cover my sit bones. I can just about live with those but I won't be buying them again when I get my next set of tights.
Anyway onto the shorts, I had a pair of Gore C5 bib shorts delivered in the same size as the tights and it's the same thing where the pad doesn't come back far enough to cover my sit bones and it is even further away than it is in the tights so I am sending these back.
So any recommendations from those with a fatter than average ass for a bib short that maybe has a larger than average pad. I don't mind paying more money for shorts that fit me well, just struggling with which brand to try next as not many brands tend to put a chubby bloke wearing the shorts showing the pad placement in their marketing shots.
For reference my waist size is in the 34-36 range, I wear size 34 Levis for example.

Fat lad at the back make clothing for the “well built” among us.
I wish I thought 34 inch waist was well built!OP you need to try different manufacturers to see what suits, each manufacturer has a different cut and pad, some will work for you, some won't, I can't wear endura for example.

Thinking about trying Castelli or Rapha next but was hoping someone would come along who has had a similar issue and has a brand recommendation.OP you need to try different manufacturers to see what suits, each manufacturer has a different cut and pad, some will work for you, some won't, I can't wear endura for example.

I'm not small and have been through most brands I think. I've not had your exact issue but I now only buy Assos. They are leagues above the rest in my experience.
They start at about £100 I think.
I've seen this brand come up in highly rated shorts on searches I have done. They start at about £100 I think.
I must admit I am leaning towards Rapha, I like the fact that they will repair the shorts if you have a crash.

For the price of a pair of rapha shorts you could try half a dozen (maybe more) different cheaper brands, and see which suit. Buying rapha without trying first seems an expensive experiment
I'd obviously return them if they didn't fit right so only expensive until they are returned... Not sure how shipping is going post Brexit but this German co. does some good XXXXXXl stuff:

I'd second the Le Col recommendation, I often find the pad is too far back for me so that should put it in the right place for you! Make sure you do whatever challenge they've got going on strava to get £50 off...
Same for me. I’m 6’6 and 34/36 inch waist and I wear XXL Le Col. Fits perfectly Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
