Trying to track down an annoying creak from (i think) is emanating from the bottom bracket area of my Cube Stereo 160 with a Bosch CX motor.

I've stripped the plastic covers thinking it may be that but still there. Only happens when you put pressure on the crank arms standing or sitting so eliminates a creaking seat post. Very hard to pin point as the bike is full sus so could be coming from one of the lower pivot points.

Any ideas? or has anyone come across a similar issue?

TLDR; check the Allen bolts on the front chain rings.

I thought I had a BB problem. PITA to remove and check, but it was fine.
Checked pedals, they're OK.
Checked the chain, could do with changing, so bought and fitted a new chain. Noise persisted!

I'm sat on a stool next to my bike stand, and thought, "I'll just check the allen bolts on the front cranks / chain rings."
BINGO! One was loose! Tightened it and all is quiet. smile

Face. Palm.

ETA: I took my bike out earlier. It hasn't cured it. frown

No bolts on front chain ring - just a tiny small from sprocket. I'm awaiting a new torque wrench being delivered. As far as i can see there are three large allen bolts securing the motor bracket to the frame and two smaller torx bolts holding the motor bracket to the motor. First step is to remove, regrease and re-torque and see where we are then

When does it creak? At all times, or when under more load?

I’ve had it when my saddle was creaking but it sounded like it came from the BB area, very confusing.

Edit - just reread your post and you answer most of that anyway.

Carbon I assume? I had a creaky Lapierre that had a crack in it, worth cleaning and checking.

Bike creaks travel. In a similar spirit to the sprocket bolts above, one of my "BB issues" turned out to be the rear wheel cassette which was loose. The little lock ring was finger tight only, so under load, the cassette squirrelled about. 3/4 of a turn with the splined tool, and it was perfect.

BUT I didn't find this out until after I had replaced the BB, cleaned and re-greased the headset, cleaned and re-greased the rear wheel bearings, test-fitted alternative pedals, cleaned and lightly white-greased the seat post, and micro-inspected the frame for cracks.

Update on this.

The rear cassette was loose. Re-torqued and everything has been fine since
