Just had an email about the Government ‘Fix Your Bike’ scheme which gives you a £50 voucher to (amazingly) get your bike fixed.

Anyone used this before? Can you use it just for a general check over/service or does there have to be something particularly wrong with the bike or something broken?

It's aimed at folks who can't afford to get their bike fixed... Limited number of vouchers.

It's about the third release of vouchers, I've missed out so far but got one today. The website explains what it counts for, I don't think it is aimed particularly at people that can't afford to have a bike fixed up. I think it is more about getting people using bikes instead of other forms of transport.

I've used it. was pretty smooth (after getting lucky with the allocation). Ended up changing the bike which the service were happy to in a couple hours over email.

Sounds like the rules on LBS are fairly strict (have to take photo of bike repair etc). They were happy for me to use, but am quite a regular spender there due to terrible DIY skills. imagine they could be a bit annoyed with one time customer showing up with a voucher.

Guidance is pretty clear. It's not free money... It's aimed at folks who can't afford to get their bike fixed.

From the website...
"However, as there are a limited number of vouchers available, please consider the needs of others before applying for a voucher".

£50 towards repairs and parts at participating cycle tech businesses.

One of my LBS were happy to let me book to drop in my old Marin Hawk Hill which I did some work on last year to restore, but just couldn’t get the gears indexed. May need a handful of parts and some expertise and the voucher will cover a decent chunk of the cost. The front forks are seized, that will need some additional money from me, for sure.

I’ve got one and looked on the locations bit and it looks like a load of one man bands (and halfords) who have all set up suspiciously recently. How many friends has Matt Hancock got....?
