Have got a set of Shimano 50mm wheels, but the lacquer has been coming off the carbon along with the stuff underneath, and though still functionally okay, are just a bit cosmetically tatty. I'd like to see if can get some vinyl type stuff I can stick over the top to cover this, but struggling to find what I'm thinking of. Most wheel stickers out there are all separate, so not going to cover it all up. I'd ideally like a solid round sticker that'll just cover the whole depth of the rim in one go. I've done some searching, but can't find anything like that. Anyone got any thoughts of where I could try?

Could you not just flat them off with some Scotchbrite or wire wool and then blow over with clear lacquer from a rattle can? Probably less faff overall and up to you whether to go for matt, gloss or satin.

Managed to find a pic:

They are carbon, but look more like a silvery aluminium underneath, so it’d probably be a faff to get all the outer layer off, and would look crap once off I suspect.

Just putting a decal over that will make any imperfections look worse

You could be right. I've got some Shimano RX830s, which are carbon/aluminium composite, and they have the surface finish starting to bubble and lift in a few places, but on them it's more like a screen print or decal, so pretty easy to scurf off.

ISTR:

that if they are clinchers then they are an aluminum box section with a carbon faring.
If they are tubs then they can be full carbon.

The unsupported brake track, on a clincher, is a in weak spot on carbon rims (heat build up) and why Shimano don't make them.

Could try some carbon 'look' decals :-)
