Hi all,

I joined Strava on 1st January as Endomondo got retired from the App Store.

I’m really interested in getting one of those chest strap sensors & pairing it with Strava.

I have a 48” chest so would welcome recommendations from anyone with a similar size with regard to what to buy.

I've never had an issue with my Wahoo in the 5 yrs I've owned it, battery life is very good.

I did 5 minutes research earlier this week and came to the conclusion I would buy a wahoo, then I forgot. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm sure Garmin would be great as well, but using a garmin watch has been a little bit of a faff getting data into strava.

Garmin should be easy to use as well, I’ve never had an issue with Strava or Garmin and have used Garmin wearables for about 6 years.

I've gone through 2 x Garmins in 7 ish years of riding which isn't bad but now have a Wahoo.

The new Garmins look better than the old versions as they have 2 x BT connections and unlimited ANT + connections.

I've have the old (cheaper) version for a few years, no issues and comfortable as these things get.

Another vote for Wahoo. I do use mine honestly, but's it on the same battery since I got it in 2018!

I have the opposite problem, my data gets into Strava before Connect knows what's happening smile

Anyway, I'd get the Garmin HRM Pro for £100 and the 10" extender strap for chubby sturdy chests.

Same size chest, but you don't wear it on your chest, it sits below that. I've just checked my Wahoo, end to end with the monitor in the middle, mines set at 40". Needs enough tension not to move, whilst still be comfortable. I can happily wear it all day.

I’ve got a beer barrel chest, if needed I use the Wahoo arm band, but generally I’m happy with my Fenix wrist heart rate sensor.

The last time I used a chest strap it got very uncomfortable after an hour.

Before you purchase a HR sensor, have you considered what benefit there is of having one? Is it to allow you to train in different HR zones, or is it just so you can see some irrelevant data logged with your ride?

I purchased a Garmin that came with HR sensor & chest strap, after a few months a stopped using the HR bit as it just recorded data that was meaningless.

I know that wasn't aimed at me, but the whole point of Strava is to push yourself to get faster, fitter and to compare yourself with friends or other runners/cyclists etc.

A HRM monitor is an excellent way of tracking progress, I never train or ride without mine.

I also use a cadence and speed sensor when I ride, with Strava premium all this data is put together to give me some meaningful stats, I specifically like to know the calorie burning and relative effort.

If it aint on Strava it didn't happen. wink

That's not the 'whole point' of Strava, but if you want to believe it is then so be it.

If you like chasing segments and comparing yourself to random people then Strava is idea for what you say. Or you can use it to plan routes, find new trails, just go for a ride and not give two fks about what speed anyone else ridden up a little hill.

My point about querying why the OP wanted HRM was that there's no point using one if you're not actively using HR zones. I used to ride with a HRM, but I didn't know what my HR zones were and then realised that it was completely pointless wearing one. All it told me was my HR went to 180+ when I rode up Mam Nick.
