Will people sell their posh turbos when lock down end ?
Discussion
So there have been some discussions on this however, to discuss in one place
1) is it worth buying a Kickr (if possible) now or wait in case they drop in price 2nd hand?
2) Ignore the "will lockdown end" elephant in the room
I have an old Tacx plus Garmin speed and cadence sensor, that Ive had for years and use 1-2 times a week with Sufferfest. Obvs a Wahoo kickr would be better (would it)
I think the Tacx cost me 50 quid on ebay 8 years ago for 50 quid

Presumably people using smart trainers etc could cycle outside still if they wanted?
I’m not sure there will be loads for sale after lockdown. I think this is like another post London olympics/team sky U.K. cycling explosion but his time it’s virtual.
I’m amazed by the amount of people I know who used to cycle and now just use virtual rides instead. My strava is dominated by the same weird looking routes that are half in the sea on some island in the pacific.
Things like Apple fitness and peloton etc all becoming much bigger will all lead to more people using home setups.
Possibly.

I can't see it happening. I've had a basic turbo for years and barely used it as it felt so dull. Lockdown and Zwift made it more appealing but still only tolerable. A decent smart trainer (kickr core here) makes it much more enjoyable and with the training plans will probably replace the spinning classes I used to do. Other people I know enjoy the zwift races and I expect they'll continue even when real life club races start again.
The prices are just insane at the moment. I managed to get hold of a Kickr for quite a bargain price yesterday so looked to put my TacX Flow on ebay to recover some of the costs. The turbo I paid £175 for a year ago is now selling for between £250 - £300 on ebay. I just can't see people letting these turbos go for peanuts after lockdown ends.
I don’t think they will either. I’m one of the ones that went from occasional use of the dumb trainer to multiple times a week on a Kickr Core. I would always rather ride outside and lockdown where I live never impacted my ability to do that but the weather does!
I find the Zwift experience immersive and it is helping me training. I’d far rather go and do 45-60 mins on the turbo after work than get togged up and go out for an hour at lunchtime in the cold and wet.
Friends of mine have also bought them and as lame as it sounds, riding together on a Zwift ride whilst chatting on the phone is better than doing it alone!
So, in summary, no chance will I sell mine but suspect usage will drop a lot in the summer.
I suspect there will be others that bought them along with bikes and aren’t using them much so I guess these might come up for sale?

I think a lot of the people who go to the expense of buying a decent turbo, are exactly the sorts of people who won’t sell them any time soon, after lockdown ends. It’s a bit like a strange cliquey tribal thing with a lot of them, even more so than on the real cycling ‘scene’.
They are also bloody heavy and a pain to take to the post office!I managed to get a kickr just in time as an upgrade to my old dumb turbo , I use it loads ,I am home schooling right now so in break times I can just jump on the kickr , it works for me and I enjoy Zwift racing and group rides , currently doing tour de Zwift which is fun and pushes you harder , I even use it in the summer if I am doing the child care , better on Zwift than not riding at all . I’ve done one ride outside so far this year and it was the most enjoyable, so Zwift is good but outside is still the best.

I certainly won't be selling my Kickr, but once the weather gets nicer the usage will drop substantially. When the weather is nice, I'd much rather be outdoors. When it's cold, wet and the roads are covered in salt and other winter muck, that is what the Kickr is for.
