Road Cycling in Scotland (Near Loch Lomand)
Discussion
Any comments for road riding in Scotland please? Planning a trip to Brig O Turk not far from Lomand in the Summer.
Most of the roads at a glance are twisting tarmac, A roads with NSL.
I usually avoid these types of road around Surrey (If I have to state the obvious, its because I don't want to disrupt drivers out doing 50-60mph, or come across some belligerent driver whom I may cause great inconvenience to, or get wiped out by someone out on a hoon pushing a car round a sweeping bend at 80mph), hoping with it being a bit quieter up there people might be a bit more tolerant of road cyclists?
That or I get some gravel tires on as there seem to be a load of gravel roads. Dont really want to do that though
Reminds me of Tuscany (Siena) from google maps.

There's loads of great cycling routes in the Trossachs. I would avoid the A821 towards the East in the summer but there is a cycle path (Callender to Killin) for the worst part. Otherwise the A roads ( with 3 digits) are generally much quieter than down south as soon as you get away from the cities. I find the road surface is generally better too. If you're on Strava, take a look at the heatmap or the automatic route selection. It'll take you to the roads where the locals ride.
Would agree with the previous poster - the A roads around Loch Lomond aren't great at all for cycling - fast with intermittent cycle paths.
Loch Katrine is lovely to cycle round - it's technically closed to cars apart from residents, so tends to be very quiet. Roads around Thornhill / Fintry / Kippen are also lovely - you could go around the Carron valley reservoir too. The whole area has stunning scenery.
Classic road climbs in the area - Duke's pass, Tak Ma Doon road and Crow road all very different, but all do-able from Brig O'Turk.

Thanks for the info
I was planning to ride round Kartine actually, few routes on Kamoot I was going to modify. I think the Lomond route will be a bit too long for me anyway but good to know that's not so great
No avoiding that A road mentioned but I won't be on it long.
Lol at the weather comment, yes ill be packing a rain coat for sure.
