GCN have rescheduled their bike festival thing in Austria for June. I think they are being extremely optimistic.

Now the last 2 cx races of the season are cancelled I’m aiming for some local 10 mile TTs which in theory should start at the end of March. Doubt I’ll bother trying to enter any sportives (not that I particularly enjoy them anyway) but some of my club mates have entered Chase the Sun in June- 200 miles from Kent to Somerset which I’ve volunteered to support in the car. Fingers crossed that will go ahead, as I’ve booked the hotel room at the other end!

^^ like the look of this and may well sign up - thanks!

Something that could just be done anyway if large scale things are still off the cards.

I’ve got my eye on Ride to the Sun, Carlisle to Crammond Beach in Edinburgh through the night, hopefully arriving before sun rise.

The organisers have configured it as a self-supported event, so minimal disruption if they choose to cancel.

Cycling Time Trials put together a robust risk assessment which allowed us to get back racing from early July last year, and I would expect it to stand up this year. There were plenty of changes to the "norm" but generally riders were just happy to have a little bit of normality. In Shropshire we have a really good local scene and would have had a 10 mile TT on Saturday if the snow and ice hadn't intervened (tier 3 so local riders only). Our reliability rides especially early this year may fall victim to COVID as the logistics even in tier 2 of ensuring groups of 6 will make it too difficult. I know local running events in March and April have already been cancelled because there is too much work involved for the high risk of being cancelled. The two time trials I promote are in Wales and that's a whole different headache!

I've ridden a few of the reliability rides organised by the SCCA member clubs. Social distancing was easy on the two I did in 2019 as I got spat out the back of the groups I'd set off with inside a mile or two! Managed to hang in a small group on the MDCC ride last Feb - that was the last time I rode in a group frown Ironically, the increase in riding (especially turbo workouts) means I'd have a much better chance of staying with a group this year!

I meant to sign up the the Loch Ness Etape, but entries have now closed.

Thing is; thousands of riders, end of April, need to sign on the night before so hotels required, the shower of st in command up here... I’m not seeing it going ahead.

I really don't know. Unless much changes, and the scientists / numbers people are right, by the end of Phase 1 (April/May) we'll have prevented 99% of the types of infection that are causing Hospitalisation and Deaths now. I'm sure there's plenty of opportunities on PH to debate that, and indeed what we should do about it. Anyway, the world doesn't need another thread to debate the morals of covid and restrictions etc.

That said, the only events I'm interested this year are are The Malvern Classic which is the end of August, and in the UK which, to my mind seems like a safe bet. The poor sods need a break, 2019 was cancelled because of a flash flood, and 2020 for obvious reasons.

Pass'Portes Du Soleil, I'm dying to go, I haven't ridden it in nearly 10 years now I think, it's the end of June and spans France and Switzerland. It also attracts thousands of riders who all have to share chairlifts and feed stations and they come from all over the world... I've decided that if the resort is open, I'll go, even if the event it off. I still think it'll happen, but maybe 60% confident.

MTB Meet-up, end of July (usually) they haven't even announced a 2021 event yet, but it's a very small event, but still not very covid friendly.

DB Max look to be offering their TT series at Castle Combe again from April so I’ll be hopefully doing that, can’t see any opens or local 10s happening for a long time.

They ran yesterday’s event without an issue, credit to them they have this well sorted but not being constrained by a National Governing Body is obviously helping. I’ll try to enter next weekend if I can shift this cold...

They had 10 and 25 races on 24 Jan but have all sold out. I was going to enter the 10 for an early season test (disappointment) hehe

I should have the Tour of Cambridge and Dartmoor Classic in June, rescheduled from 2020.

I like the idea of a few local 10 mile TTs, so will keep an eye on the CTT website. I really should do a couple of 25 milers before Cambridge too, I guess.

All this means more shopping for an aero0road helmet, which will be for Cambridge too.

I’d also considered Grinduro Wales in July.

Thought it might sell out yesterday when tickets were released, but it looks like they still have availability, so I guess some are hedging their bets....and keeping their wallets closed....

I think I got an entry for the 25 but I’m not sure, not that it’s likely to go ahead now anyway....

I did it in 2015 I think, great event, and pretty tough. I had a nasty crash after Postbridge, about 25 miles from the end. Misjudged the most inviting downhill corner you have ever seen...Had to ride on to the finish, blood running down my legs and arms. My suffer score was 630 for the event, the Fred was only 703! Not sure if that was all down to the event or partly due to the crash.

2014 and 2018 I think for me. Both very nice conditions, very warm. Great event. Rather lumpy.

A trundle round Dartmoor was by far my lumpiest ride last year - I shan't be sorry if I don't see the Dartmeet climb again for a bit.

I have a place on Chase the Sun carried-over from this year: I guess at 2m vaccinations a week that might - just - be a goer? TTs, too, since the Yeovil CC 5 & 10 courses are an easy warmup ride from the front door.
