Hi - I’ve got a wattbike arriving next week. Ideally I’d set it up to be the same as my road bike with SPD-SL pedals but my wife doesn’t ride with clipless so that won’t work very well for her.

I’m sure at the gym the WattBikes had toe cages with an spd-sl cleat on the base of them so they could be clicked into the pedals for non-spd users...

I’ve googled but not found anything. Does anyone know what these adaptors are called or have any better solutions?

Why can't your wife just ride clipless?

Three solutions that I know of:

-get an spd-sl flat pedal adapter and click it in when Madam wants a go

-get some cheap MTB spd shoes and double sided cleat/platform pedals (m 324 Shimano or similar, there are loads about)

-get Wellgo spd-sl to spd cleat adapters for your existing shoes and use those on the double sided pedals

Best of luck.

Dual sided SPD+Flat pedals are quite common (and are what I've seen on every spin bike in every gym.

SPD-SL+Flat is not something I have ever seen, and a quick google doesnt bring any up.

I'd suggest a pair of cheap Shimano SPD shoes and an SPD/Flat pedal is the best option for a Wattbike - its what I have on the bike that lives on my Turbo Trainer to allow my partner to use it easily on occasion.

Would actually be the 'best' solution if you can persuade her to try as she whill also get the benefits of the proper shoes - power transfer, stiff soles, comfort etc.

Plus, she doesn't need to worry about falling off at traffic lights while she's on a Wattbike.

Thanks all - think you’re right, I’ll give her the good news (new pair of shoes) and then the bad 😂

Proper road cycling shoes have plenty of ventilation and minimal padding which are essential for indoor riding.
