Looking for some help. My bike has developed a constant click from the front pedals. I took it all apart yesterday, bottom bracket off, chain off, etc and fully cleaned everything back to absolute mint, creased, oiled and reassembled, but the click remains.

You can hear it in a wee video I made here:
https://youtu.be/NmowPWahvV0

It's a Shimano 105 set - I had that put on by Evans cycles a year or so ago and they used some converter bracket to make it fit (not sure what the original fitment is). I've done about 4 hours a week on the turbo trainer since then - dont know if that's enough to wear parts or not?

I'm happy taking it apart again and adjusting, cleaning or replacing any parts, but I'm not sure what the culprit will be. Nothing looked broken or worn when I was cleaning it.

What bottom bracket?

Some of the tolerances on BBs are so bad that they creak straight out of the box.

I've got BB30. NTN bearings, with loctite bearing adhesive and the correct spacer and spring washer sorted it.

When mine did the same thing, it turned out to be the pedal. When I tightened up the pedal it stopped but returned after about 5 miles, used some thread lock and it hasn't returned.

It’s quite likely to be a pedal axle issue. If the click is really loud and persistent it may be about to part company with the crank. Take the pedals off, give them a really close inspection, and if all is well, put a load of bike grease on the threads and re tighten them.

Last time I had a similar click, it turned out to be my left pedal hitting the frame-mounted pump biggrin

Does it click when you hand pedal the bike?
Next chain off and give it a big spin and see if the click is there.

Have you got another set of pedals to try ?

Don't forget to clean your seatpost! In my experience, most people who think they have a BB issue actually have dirt between the post and seat tube.

How about the cassette? My bike was creaking like mad and did it every pedal stroke, turned out to be that the cassette wasn’t fully tight on the hub.

1st does the clicking still happen when you are on the large front ring? if not the front derailleur might be out of line or the chain connector link might be catching.

2nd and I think most probable is its one of your pedals - Remove pedals, clean and re grease with silicon grease or copper slip and refit.

Lastly and looking at your bike I presume its a carbon frame - remove seat post, clean and regrease with carbon grease(make sure you put enough on).

Still reckon its the pedals though!

The clicking is definitely at the front, although I cleaned the cassette while I was at it anyway.

It happens at the same location of rotation regardless of which front ring I'm on. And it happens from pressure on the right pedal, if I push round only on the left I don't get it.

I don't know what the original bracket size is (how do I tell?), but it's now a shimano hollow 2 or something.

I can take it apart again and have a look? I found it odd that it is identical after a full strip, clean and reassembly.

That's a really loud click!

It must be crank/rings/pedal related.

Have you checked the pedals are on tight, and the chain ring bolts as well (Caution they may be torx not hex).

Did you wind in the plastic preload on the non drive side before tightening the crank arm pinch bolts?

Oh, and have a look at the whole of the chainring assembly for any cracks in the plastic cover

It is loud, but I think it picks up louder on the video. The pedals are on tight - made sure of this when I refitted after cleaning. The plastic bit is in place and I tightened the hex bolts up to 13Nm.

There was no obvious cracks or wear on any parts, but might take it apart again tomorrow and look again. Will post some pics.

You have already been advised about the pedals!

I have had the same and it was one of the pedals - forget how tight they are! remove clean regrease refit, it will take you 10 minutes.

Spin it without the pedals on, see if the sound is still there.

Sounds like the end of the front mech cable catching on your trouser leg and thwacking against the frame. Try taking you trousers off but don't post a video.

Had another look. The pedals might be a winner. The right side had a very slight 'grittiness' when I turn the threaded part close to my ear. I've replaced with some other (mountain bike) pedals I had and initially there appears to be no noise. Will give a proper run later to confirm.
