I bought an S 3 speed back in 2014. Got a bit of commuting use that year but since then it gets used as a spare bike, ie very very rarely.

I have added the 'bullet proof' tyres and with a wet cloth and a bit of oil it looks as good as new.

Someone at work was interested in it and I was going to ask £500 as I think I paid £800 back in '14.

I have been following a few 2014s and even a 2012 on eBay, same model as mine and they have all gone for £830 or more, wow.

I know eBay and PayPal will knock that down to £700 or so, once they take their fees, but isn't that amazing? is it usual?

Not sure my work mate would be willing to pay that much but I didn't think the little Brompton would have zero depreciation when I bought it.

I had a Specialized Allez Comp once. Felt lucky to sell it for half it's original price only a couple of years later.

Used bike prices have gone bonkers this year. I guess Brompton even more so at the moment as the factory are struggling to meet demand due parts not getting through to the U.K. For £500 I think that’s a steal, despite this year’s demand.

Covid Tax.

I couldn't get a paddleboard or an inflatable kayak for love nor money during the summer. Looked on eBay and even well used ones were going for more than when new.

Also looking at the Brompton site, boy! have they got expensive.

I’ve got a couple of Bromptons, courtesy of cyclescheme, so paid a little over half price when new. Around 500/600 each.
Hardly used them TBH. But wouldn’t sell.
2016 S3 raw lacquer
2018 S6 black
Both + 10% gearing
Was looking to buy another but a 5 month wait. A bit strange an nobody commutes by train any more!

If you want a laugh, see what CHPT3 edition goes for!
I tried to get a new one, but no chance ..

I sold a M6L for a friend recently for £850 and could have sold it 4 times over at that price, which was just under what he paid for it a few years ago. It was mint condition.

I still have mine, hardly used it recently so will probably sell in the New Year as I should get back what I paid for it new.

Even older Bromptons are selling for good money so don't sell it too cheaply!

I think a lot of lockdown purchasers are recent returnees or converts to cycling. I’d imagine the Brompton will appeal as it’s easy to store if you’re pushed for space. Just a thought.

Bromptons do really hold their value, I was looking to get a second hand one a year or two ago and even a 5 year old one was probably 60/70% of the original purchase price.

Does make their high initial cost look like much better value overall.

That was the "clincher" that persuaded me to buy one a couple of years ago - that I could easily offload it if I didn't get on with it.

Absolutely no chance of me selling it - it's just too useful. In fact I could be tempted to buy a second when the current supply issues are resolved - a M3 with rack to go with my zippy S2...
