I discovered this on the BBC iplayer in the `Sports stories`section. Some very effective camera work & some arty bits which I skipped over. If watching with kids be aware of the effing in the soundtrack...
Worth a look I think.

I watched it a few weeks ago, while on a 90 minute Trainerroad Wattbike session...

It's a very good film. Millar hams it up a little, a lot of moody, dark introspective stuff at play, but he balances it with some quite open self criticism.

His antics in the Paris Nice snowy stage are quite revealing. I couldn't make up my mind if he had reached the end of the road as pro, and it was just a job and grind, or he was something of a squeeky wheel anyway, and his team were getting not only tired of it, but didn't want negativity in a Tour team.

There's a great photo in one of Ned's books, of Millar at the 2014 Tour. Since he is not riding, he's on the commentary team, and the photo is of him, coming out of an offy on the Cote de Jenkins Hill, with a bag full of Stella.

Never saw what the fuss was about myself.

Actually was very cringeworthy watching for the most part. Summed up nicely by Geraint just riding off from Millar after yet another war story.

Sadly Mr Todd of Onyx fame has since done that on his TT bike hehe

For me Millar's swagger and charisma is of someone a lot better at cycling than Millar was, that's what I can't quite get my head round, of course he's not had a bad career by any stretch, but he walks and talks and expects people to treat him as if he's Cancellara and has a palmares comparable.

“He’s not had a bad career by any stretch”

I think his transition from pro rider to his current situation is something a lot of sports people can learn a bit from

His tedx talk is maybe one for the turbo trainer video list https://youtu.be/uTOazOmGyeU

I do agree, it helps that he's quite eloquent and that lends itself quite nicely to fitting in with a pundit role.

Should Cavendish have tried to do that sort of thing vs embarrass himself globally as he continues to? Maybe. But it takes time for many ex sports people to make decent pundits in many cases, look at Adam Blythe, he was pretty raw and green early doors but I feel it's really come on with him and he's pretty decent now IMO. I think Cav could get there, but it would take a bit of polish.

The problem with many sports stars it seems, especially in cycling which is one of the most selfish sports in many ways, is adapting to it not suddenly being all encompassing and about you. Millar obviously like many eventually had his retirement decision made for him.

I think Cav might go down the coaching / DS route when he finally accepts that top level racing is over for him. If he gets a chance to get his arms up next season with quickstep, I will be cheering for him, but he is very much in the twilight of his career now. I can understand why it is hard for him accept.

This is one of the things I saw that just made me think about coaching / DS as something Cav has looked at

I watched Time Trial back to back with The Road Will Decide with Geraint Thomas. I thought Time Trial was pretty crap, like they tried to make a documentary in less than 300 words. Millar came off as a total bell, incredibly pretentious and arrogant. Like night and day with Geraint, despite Geraint being a much more decorated athlete.

He does come across as that kid in 6th form, who was all arty and into drama and who's FB feed is now all about how arduous his life with Mr Puggles, his cockerpoo, is.

I'm sure a mate of mine has had him on a client cycling day, and after a few drinks he doesn't get better...

I've watched it a few times whilst on the turbo. It's a good entertaining watch, and a good insight into peloton life. Compliments his books well.

Easy to pick holes in it if you are so inclined and take everything too seriously. There is a lot of bravado across the sport as well as a lot of introversion. Had it been released as planned in 2016, the insight would have had greater impact, with on bike cameras prevalent now, it loses it's USP in 2020, but it's a fun watch. Also interesting to see how Millar rose, crashed, and rose...and how he changed.

On the turbo session today. I watched the bbc programme that they put out in the run up to the 2012 olympics about Vicky Pendleton

Ever so slightly bonkers, but she was a good pedaller. One line that stuck out for me was her saying that it was only when she was world champion for the first time that she felt worthy of being in the gb squad

Sutton and brailsford created that environment on purpose. Silver medals and jerseys with no rainbow bands were failures

Much as it is the Mail, there was a good article on her a couple of days ago.

Been through the wringer by the sounds of it. She certainly has guts though, track is not for the fainthearted, and neither is flat racing.....

She sounds like she's fragile but high performing, and the men in her life have exploited that.

She looks good company, tatts. green hair, into freefall parachuting - I can see a cracking night at the MBC bar in Chamonix.....
