Hope you experts can help please - my son is buying an electric mountain bike made by Specialised, and I thought something to go with it from Santa would be a good idea.

I know he wants a maintenance stand and some form of good security to make sure he hangs onto it and doesn't get stolen from his garage.

First with the maintenance stand - would this one be suitable or is there a better option? (by better I don't just mean less expensive)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yaheetech-Maintenance-Mec...

It says heavy duty which I imagine he will need for the bike?

For security in his garage I have no idea, I use to have motorbikes but have totally lost touch with all things two wheeled. His garage is attached to the house, has a rollup door, no other entrance, concrete floor and usual brick work.

I was thinking some form of ground or wall anchor with a suitable chain or other secure fastening?

Any suggestions welcome please, Santas budget is £150 so might not be able to manage both items, but one or the other would be great cheers!

Only thing with that bike stand is you may struggle with an ebike on it. They are bloody heavy. I have the Feedback Sports Sprint which is fantastic and much more stable the the ones youve linked to but obviously comes at a price.

I have the LifeLine one linked above, although I got it for £60. It handles my 23kg eMTB ok although I went through a period where I would store it on the stand. It has bent a little bit but works okay, the only reason I notice is because some of the paint has scratched off on the stand.

But for actually maintaining the bike it works well, goes up to a decent height and the clamp is strong. It then folds away into nothing, I used to keep it in the cupboard in the spare room when I had the bike in a flat. For the price I paid it was a bargain. I appreciate it's now up for £90 before discount though.

I have the Halfords one I bought in a sale on a wim (normally £40) and that holds up my 16kg fat bike with no problem.

I've always found the Lifeline stuff much better than Halfords own stuff.

I have an Aldi stand (same as the Amazon one) but it’s not really up to the job of holding my Levo steadily so I purchased one of these....

I like that it takes up no room when not being used and the bike doesn’t have to be lifted to get it on the stand. You can do most regular maintenance on it and if working on the front wheel I use a Velcro strap to tie the rear wheel to the stand so the bike is tipped the other way.

I have the same one, it’s fine for our Cube e bikes.

Remind him to remove the battery when working on it, plus it’s easier and safer to hoik it up onto it.

Swing the little tool tray 180 degrees round otherwise it fouls the near pedal. It only took me 5 years to realize that one.

I use the Aldi workstand for my Cube and my wifes KTM and it seems to cope just fine (once you get them up there!)

As far as security, either an anchor in wall or floor with a motorcycle type heavy chain attached, or possibly a large bucket with a loop of rebar filled with concrete and the same type of chain. Always store with the battery removed, as it makes it less attractive to nick.
