Sold a bike the other week. Agreed a price over messages, buyer inspected, paid and off he went.
He has now come back trying to get me to pay for a new BB, bombarding me with messages.

I had no idea that there was an issue with the BB, and I'm slightly suspicious as the apparent cost to replace would bring the overall price down to exactly to what he was originally offering.

Obviously I've told him private sale, inspected/test ridden, not obliged to repair etc. and have blocked his messages and number.

But, his parting shot was that he'll be over next week to 'discuss this face-to-face'.

It won't change the situation, but I don't really want him turning up at my house shouting the odds. It's stressing me out, which I can do without.

What would you do?

How’d you sell it? Pink bike, eBay, gumtree?

Assuming there’s no chance of a payment reversal I’d just ignore.

Is he far away?

Facebook Marketplace. Paid with online bank transfer.

He's around 40mins away but is apparently nearby with work next week so will 'drop by one evening'.
Should have seen this coming really, he spent *ages* trying to chip at the price and get various extra bits included.

I'm really trying to put it out of my head and ignore, but the prospect of this loon pitching up next week is stressful.

Buy a gimp suit, and answer the door wearing it.

He’ll make a hasty retreat, you’ll have your money and a good story. Maybe fit a security camera and share the footage with us lot.

Then sell the suit as ‘used’ and ‘lightly soiled’ on an S&M forum.

Being a 'lycra-clad cyclist', he'd probably enjoy that ;-)

He wont turn up. It's a threat so you would pay him. If he does turn up, get your wife on him. Woman are more scary than any man..

Taking a tip from a TV series I watched recently, answering the door and confronting him in just a towel would probably unnerve him enough. most people are intuitive enough to suss that anyone bonkers enough to do that is probably psychotic, so will just leave it.

I'd warn him that if he does turn up to "discuss" you'll call the police. He's just trying to intimidate you, don't crack like that mug that gave £300 to the guy that bought their car.

Bizarre. Ignore obviously, but just out of curiosity, how much is he expecting to get off you? With decent quality bottom brackets under £20 you've got to wonder why it would be worth the time / effort.

Nice and spendy, that’s Hope prices.

He’s trying it on.

Maybe he's asking for a BB fitted by a shop.

How old is the bike and how much use?

Presuming he'll bring the bike with him when he pays you a visit.

If it turns out it's faulty I'd pay him.

My Dad was a tough old Londoner, but he always told me "Don't fall out with anyone if they know where you live"

For future referance something i have learned the hard way in business is when someone is needling you hard to drop your price just dont do business with them full stop. Even if they pay upfront what you are asking they will be an ongoing source of headache as they are of the mindset that they have to get one over on you at all costs.

Has he actually said what's wrong with the BB?

I don't think you should pay him anything, but it's entirely possible his "BB problem" is something stupid like he's not got his pedals or saddle rail clamp tight enough and he's getting a noise.

Regardless, this lad has got nothing to come back with. Caveat Emptor. You've described it, he's seen it and bought it with his own eyes. The risk of buying used.

If he turns up, just tell him politely that he's wasting his time. Just make sure your car is out of sight in case he tries to damage it.

Not from Southampton is he? I had some dick from there trying to hassle me when I sold my Garmin Fenix. He told me he was working in my area the following week, obviously I told him to f.o and he never showed up.
