Any thoughts on this gadget:

https://cycliq.com/bike-cameras/

Nice idea but no actual details of the camera specs shown?

Click 'Learn More' under the pic of a camera, then click 'Tech Specs' on the relevant page.

Been around for ages - they do the job but there have been poor reports of customer service. I’m convinced enough now to get the latest version now that the battery life is up to the task.

Several of my friends use them and night / day image quality is up to the task.

I bought an ETC watchman rear light/camera. Sure it will be enough if you had an accident, but the recording quality is pretty crap. If it broke, I wouldnt buy another one put it that way.

If you live in a particularly wet area, don't bother. I went through 3 units before finally giving up. To be fair to Cycliq, their customer service was decent, but the units just aren't up to being used in the rain at all. The MicroSD and charging port just has a rubber flap over it and, try as they might, its just not up to the job and it will eventually let water in, at which point Cycliq just aren't interested. For something costing as much as their unit does, that's just not good enough. Note their advertising blurb still says "Whateverproof" and "Water and dust resistant", so still no IPX rating.

The camera/light is quite heavy and feels well made. Unfortunately the bracket that attachs the camera to the bike is made out of plasticine so I sent it back.

I have the rear camera Fly6 CE attached to the seat post and it does exactly what I need - would definitely recommend.
Like you, I am considering the Fly12 CE front facing at the moment but was worried by reports of poor customer service and in particular the poor mounting bracket causing units to fall and smash!

I am still seriously considering it though as I found a possible "upgraded" mount - might be a consideration

What about getting two fly 6 cameras?

Had my eye on these for months and with black friday deals now on I may buy a couple.

I’ve got the older fly6 rear camera/light. 3 years old and no issues, been out in all weather.
Best thing about it is the fact you don’t need to keep deleting to create space on memory card, it overwrites so just switch on and forget. Quality is ‘good enough’, rather than decent.

Looked at front camera but weighs a lot. I use a GoPro session under the garmin mount, with a separate light.

I took the plunge on cycliq finally.

I've been in two minds because their customer service sounds abysmal. I'll be honest - I'm already unimpressed. Ordered the 6 CR gen 3 rear and 12 ce front - 35% off in their 'black friday' sale, so about 350gbp.

Not until the confirmation email was there any mention that they won't ship until January.

Which doesn't bode well, because from what I understand, the 6 gen 3 rear was supposed to ship in October, and July before that. So it sounds like they're having manufacturing issues. Based on the fact that Chinese manufacture is about 98% back to where it was pre-covid, I can only assume the delays mean they're having issues. We shall see..

Perhaps they've updated the website, but as soon as I add a device to cart in shows each line item detail with the wording
"Includes 32GB microSD Card
Shipping January 2021"

I've got one of these on the front:

And this on the back:

https://chilli-tech.com/content/rear-bike-camera-r...

The website is terrible but the quality of the camera is really good, especially the rear one.

Possible I missed it then, it was 2am laugh

Even so - that still isn't exactly in line with 'limited stock, buy now' flashed all over their website and social media adverts.

Zero stock. Pre-order now is a less enticing offer I suppose.

Also somewhat annoying that it's 10USD to ship to HK.

From HK.

Why did you go for the rear camera, as opposed to using another cheaper "front" camera on the rear?

Is the benefit of the rear specific worth the extra money?

Cheers.

To be honest it was a gift but having used both for about two months I would still get the pair rather than two front cameras.

The rear light camera is really clear and the integrated light is really bright, I believe it's a Sony camera?

Honestly for the price these are a no brainer
