Strange paint bubbles

Hi all,

Has anyone seen or experienced similar to below? The paint is bubbling or blistering where the cables go through the frame. The bubbles are rock hard but spreading.

Can't be metal corrosion as it's a CF frame.

I want to disagree but I can't think of another plausible explanation.

Not sure what this means from a frame life point of view.

Disappointing as the frame was coated in Gtechiq C1 and Exo when new.

The 2 cable entries closest to the camera have either alloy or steel riv nut type fittings to allow the cable / hose to run through the frame. The protrusion is the head of the riv nut.

CFRP conducts electricity so you get galvanic corrosion where metals are in contact.

Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will have to weigh up the economics of having it repaired. No idea whether this will just be a cosmetic issue or progress into damaging the surrounding CF.

I’d try for a warranty claim first regardless of age. The paint looks in good condition no obvious damage so it’s under the paint so it would have been there from the start.
There’s an old saying, if you don’t ask you don’t get. If they say no your no worse off.

As an alternative explanation, osmosis? Happens on glassfibre and polyester bodied cars a lot. Moisture in the fibres mainly.

I have to thank and recommend GTecniq for that. When the bike was new I gave the frame a coating of C1 and then a top layer of EXO. The gloss retention is superb and there are zero swirl marks. Because of the cost and minimum order quantity of C1 and EXO it's best to see if anyone has some left over from detailing a car.
