This morning on the school run, my wife witnessed some dumb driving by one of the other parents, near the school.

She's gone a bit "Karen" about the whole thing, and now wants a helmet cam for Christmas.

I really can't be arsed to argue with her, and it will likely be forgotten about within a few trips. Even if she got some footage, WTF is she going to do with it? Right!

Anyway. Let's assume I have no testicular fortitude, and get that out the way.

Are there any cheap cameras which aren't terrible, and cost buttons? There's plenty around £30 on Amazon, but are there any that are actually better than the others?

Dumb driving near schools should be reported.

No idea on the cams but submitting to opsnap is becoming a bit of a hobby especially now my local plod provide updates on submissions.

I dont have a helmet cam yet but would like one front and rear, so interested in what recommendations you get.

Someone on here recommended an Olfi when I asked earlier this year - avoid at all costs the image stabilisation is crap and the picture quality is terrible.

I use Cycliq, an Australian company that make front and rear lights with very high quality cameras in them

I know you mentioned a helmet cam, most ppl use a GoPro, but that can generally be v pricey. Police won't act without a witness or video evidence hence me buying a camera after an incredibly close pass on a country lane a few years back

They did for me when I reported someone for deliberately driving at me one morning back in June, completely unprovoked. At first they said they couldn't, then the neighbourhood policing team rang me and said they would pay the registered keeper a visit.

I was surprised, but this bloke needed to know he is on their radar.

I bought one of these cheap ones from Ebay, about £30 I think & it comes with all the brackets to mount but just as easy to cable tie it on & less likely to get knocked off. Works a treat, had it about 18 mths with no issues & people think its a light rather than a camera.

A bit of a look around Amazon led me to this, which has some kind of voucher you can select to bring it down to £20.

I'll drop back to this thread in to give a brief review after Christmas once I've had a chance to have a play with it.

Both myself and my wife commute by bike and i've had a few near misses over about 8 years of commuting. But after my wife got some abuse from a bloke who tried to force her out the way, as he overtook a stationary bin truck on her side of the road, I have bought 2 of these for piece of mind.

We have them handlebar mounted and they look no different to normal lights.

My wife has had a nasty close pass on the way to a pedestrian island and has used it to submit a complaint to the police.
