Just fitted mudguards, annoying 'ting ting' noise..
Discussion
Finally got round to fitting the fancy set of custom fit SKS mudguards that have been sitting in a garage drawer for the past 18 months at the weekend. Crikey what a faff, cutting trimming, adjusting and refitting, all so that when you have finished the bike looks worse than it did before you started;)
Anyhoo, got them set up nicely on the stand, no contact, no rubbing, nice even gaps all round. Result. But first ride last night in the pouring rain, yes they kept me and the bike much cleaner and drier but at the cost of a quiet but annoying 'ting ting' noise which gets faster and slower according to road speed. Definitely coming from the rear half of the bike.
Doesn't sound like a tyre rubbing, more like something catching a spoke - just a very slight, glancing contact. Got less in the heaviest rain so presumably the water was acting as a lubricant. Had a quick look, nothing obvious and no noise when I am not sat on it.
May even not be the guards themselves but something I disturbed i the process of fitting them. Any ideas before I start taking things off to see what makes it go away?

Make sure you look around where the guards are fitted onto the frame, I've had this problem.
If it does it when riding but not when on the stand, is the loading of you on the tyre and rim causing slight deformation which is enough to make it catch?
Also, it might be nothing to do with the mudguard, but something you've disturbed when fitting them. I'd check the brakes very careful for this reason. (Again, I've personal experience of this.)

Yes I was wondering about the brakes too. Will pop out later this am if I can and try to take a look in the daylight. Mostly riding in the dark at present so not the ideal time for fault finding. Just hoping I can sort it without having to take the blasted things off again;) If it does it when riding but not when on the stand, is the loading of you on the tyre and rim causing slight deformation which is enough to make it catch?
