I'm sure this will have been asked a hundred times on here, but I'm not seeing any recent threads.

Who do you use for insurance?

Any good deals about at the moment?

I see Pedalsure are offering a Hiplok with new policys. I could probably do with a better lock as well.

Anyone know of any other good offers on the go at the moment?

First place to try is your home insurance. We are covered home and away for £25k of bikes, max value of a single bike is £12k. This includes accidental damage and when we take the bikes on hols. Pretty sure it increased our policy by something crazy like £30 a year.

Spoke with them this morning. Only cover up to £1000 for a single bike if it's away from my home. Tesco insurance.

Check the cost of cancelling, it may be cheaper to cancel and buy from another company which offers the cover you need. I'm with Aviva and I think they were one of the cheapest providers anyway, I think it was just a flat rate (£25) to increase the single-article limit for bikes to £5k. The cycle value itself is covered under the contents cover.

Dedicated cycle insurance would offer extras, but if you are just wanting theft cover away from home then home insurance would be fine.

Sorry, forgot to add, also with Aviva.

PedalCover Home Contents & Bike Insurance.

Bikes up to £20k, Factor covered for £11.5k single item.

Similar price to my previous JL policy that wouldn't cover the Factor, or anything above £3 i think it was.

I’m with assetsure. I wouldn’t bother with the cost of insurance for most of my bikes, but I did for the ‘A’ bike. They did insist on a sold secure gold standard lock though.

I use Laka as I like the honesty of their model. They add up all the claims for that month, add their operating costs and profit margin and then divide it proportionally amongst their customers based on the level of cover taken out. The premiums are usually lower than competitors, sometimes quite a lot lower and especially so over winter. You're welcome to use my referral link https://laka.co.uk/r/MSCT2 which gives both of us £25 credit.

They were great when I trashed a wheel on a pothole. I ordered a replacement in the taxi home, not realising insurers look to source replacements themselves rather than reimburse you. Happy to say they applied discretion and common sense and paid out the same day. I'm not sponsored but I am a fan.

Before Laka I had the bikes covered on the AXA home insurance but after a claim they pulled the plug on that and bumped the premiums much higher. Best to keep the two separate in my opinion, given the higher likelihood of needing to claim for bikes.

I'm with admiral and have had no issues claiming, whilst being significantly cheaper than most bike only insurers - 2 over 1k bikes are individually named.

Something to note with 'best' road bikes is that nearly nobody insures for theft without lock away from home. obviously not carrying a gold rated lock around on long rides...

With asset sure. Cover vs cost came out better than others. Never put them to the test though.

Lakas lowest estimate was why higher and on a bad month even worse.

Could go with never claiming, but if I crash and snap a frame or even wreck a wheel, it will pay for itself. Staring down at a smashed up frame with no cover would be pretty horrible.

Another with Laka here.

I like the model they use, but have also found them pretty straightforward to deal with when I did have to claim for some damage. In my case, they were happy for me to source parts, and have them fitted.

Laka

Been with them for a few years. Not had to make a claim myself. But know someone who has. No issues at all. Dead easy and they paid up quickly.

Posh bike is never out of my sight on a ride, when it’s in the garage it’s locked to three other bikes with a few d-locks and cables. Never needed insurance as a BC member any incident with a motorist will be their fault and subsequent liability. I use a d-lock on the pub bike and as it’s 13mm wheel nuts not QRs, it’s fairly safe to leave.

Never understand why people think leaving a posh bike unlocked, albeit in a locked shed or garage, is a safe and sensible thing to do.

I actually wish I could get a policy that just covered damage during training/racing.

The risk of my road bikes being stolen is practically zero.

I’m sure most of the cost comes from covering the theft aspect, so it would be nice to get cover which cuts this out.
