Afternoon all, after some pointers please.
I have a several year old Claud Butler hybrid bike, which I got off Gumtree for £150 a few years ago when I wanted to ride to the train station occasionally. On the face of it it's probably a reasonably OK bike. Shimano everything, hydraulic Shimano disc brakes, fancy looking wheels etc. However, it's probably a bit small for me at 6'1" and is somewhat fked - all sorts of noises when changing gears, occasionally gets stuck with a grinding noise and needs persuading, brakes don't inspire confidence and squeak like buggery (despite my changing pads and bleeding system a few months ago). My guess is it would cost as much as the bike is worth to get it in shape, and it still wouldn't be the correct size.
My use is limited to going out with my 7 year old on path rides (occasionally grassy/gravely bits), and eventually my son when he's big enough. However, I have just got a smart turbo trainer (elite Halfords jobbie) to do some evening cardio in the kitchen in conjunction with Zwift. Going to follow the FTP builder program for 6 weeks and then do group rides a few nights a week.
Looking for recommendations, I presume a hybrid is still the way to go for my use case? Bike will be ideally sub £500 (since I'm not "into" cycling and would rather waste excess cash elsewhere), happy to go used as well. Bike needs to make the Zwift stuff as pleasurable as possible, whilst not limiting me to adopting some sort of fast racing bent over position whilst out with the kids.
