I just bought a £140 hybrid bike for my 7 year old. I know this is cheap in the scheme of things but It is a step up in quality and complexity from her previous bikes as it has 18 gears and grip-shift, etc.

Typical use could involve a quick ride out in the rain and then not be used for a few weeks at a time.

Can you recommend any products to help keep the gears working smoothly and to prevent surface rust on the chain?

I have seen the Muc-Off range, but is that overkill for a cheap kids bike? I have also seen a "WD-40 Bike" spray product. Would that be better all-in-one solution for my needs?

I would appreciate any guidance or recommendations

For a kids bike that’s used now and again any chain oil will do, don’t use too much though as it just attracts dirt, oil it then give it a wipe with a rag to get rid of the excess. Remember to leave it with the chain on the smallest sprocket at the back to avoid stretching the gear cable.
