I am presently considering a Kickr Core to partner up with Zwift. I have read on the Wahoo site that it is compatible with 8/9/10/11 speed cassettes. Problem is my bike is a 2 x 7 and it is a freewheel/hub (?) rather than a cassette. I think the rear cogs are a shimano MF TZ21, 14-28T. Can anyone confirm if there is a way to get this working with the Kickr Core?

I have done a bit of searching and there are one or two posts saying that it will work if you use a 4.5mm spacer along with the Kickr supplied 1.8mm one but presumably that is relation to a cassette? The gears are shimano tourney - would they play nice with a cassette rather than a freewheel.

At present I have an eMTB but really am a fair weather ebiker. Since the turn of the year I have been looking on Gumtree and eBay to pick up a bike locally that I could nip to Tesco with and not be precious about leaving it outside etc. As you are probably aware, used bikes have gone through the roof but this week I finally managed to pick up a 2014 Carrera TDF Ltd Ed - the bike I thought might be suitable for putting on a wheel off smart trainer.

I have been looking at Zwift as I quite like the "video game" aspect of it and would like to see if I could get into it and perhaps gain some fitness. I have never been seriously into cycling but pretty much always had a bike but never a road bike.

I have cleaned up the Carrera and could even it flip it, but the trouble is finding a suitable used bike for up to about £300. I know that sounds a bit tight when considering spending £600-£700 on a smart trainer but I am taking the view that the trainer will have a good used value. If I did get into it I would then get a bike via cycle to work.

7 speed road bikes used to have shorter axles. I don't know if that is still the case but it would be worth double checking.

Four millimetres narrower, his frame will spring that far.
