I have a Garmin 830, but I find it a bit fiddly to generate routes on.

I have a found a lovely looking route on Viewranger, but for love nor money I can't seem to edit it (I want to adjust it to a slightly shorter route).

I was hoping to export it as a GPX, edit it and then up load to the Garmin

Can anyone help with an easy method of doing this?

Thanks

You should be able to import a GPX and edit it within Garmin connect? I'm sure I've done that before.

Yes I have imported GPX files into Garmin Connect many times. I think you need to switch the routing from "popularity" to "follow roads" otherwise it will change the route when you drag part of it, also a GPX often doesn't match the Garmin map so you need to drag parts of it to update the route's shape.

Can you?

When I log onto Garmin Connect, I can only see details of activities / stats etc, I can't see anything about creating / editing / importing routes.

I'll have another look, proving myself to be a luddite smile

Use komoot, draw the routes on the computer and the transfer to Garmin - get the komoot app on your Garmin. Works great,

Thanks - got it working, but it seems to often route me down roads even with the settings as advised

Bingo - had a go at this and it seemed to work, we shall see when I go out on the ride. I've exported it as a gpx and imported into the Garmin

Tried that first, it was someone else’s route that I wanted to edit, I saved into my routes but I just couldn’t get it to edit. Probably user error

In the end exported it as gpx and edited it in Kamoot

Bit of a faff but I got there in the end
