Replacement for Pedalcover
Discussion
I've been happily insuring with Pedalcover for my contents/building cover plus multiple bike (i think it's 8 at the latest count!! but there is always room for n+1) and have no complaints about their service. However I had an email from them today to say that my Policy won't be renewed as my house is too old (pre 1850)
Any suggestions for a replacement?

I use Direct Line for my House Insurance and Bikmo for my bikes (Direct Line won't cover bikes worth over 3K)...
Bike are expensive (about £400 per annum for 11K total value of bikes, covered for use, theft etc), but when I renewed with Direct Line a year ago I removed my other bikes from the policy which bought the house insurance down by £200...
It still feels expensive though

Interesting. I had been using them quite happily for the last 3 or 4 years and they told me a few weeks ago that they wont be able to renew because I had a burglary claim at the start of last year even though they renewed it later in the year. I've now got a much cheaper policy (less than half the price) that provides the same level of cover for everything except my bikes which are now distributed accross two garages and locked with a big chain.Any suggestions for a replacement?
I struggled to get cover anywhere for bikes. I suspect the recent explosion in bike use and the subsequent thefts have put a flag on policies. Feel sorry for them as that was their USP and the service whenever I needed it was superb.
My PedalCover renewal came through yesterday. Big increase from £305 to £350, of which the core AXA premium is 25% up (£182 to £227). Other elements unchanged - legal expenses and excess protect. Their £50 'broker fee' still grates!
Minor changes are all negative - the excess protect policy now covers just claims under the home insurance, second hand bikes are now covered at their estimated current value (or 50% of new cost if bought new and now > 5 years old), tougher security required for bikes kept in outbuildings.
No explanation given for the hike - I'd expect household theft claims to be significantly down with so many WFH now?
I got a quote from DirectLine (who do the car) and it came out at £390 for broadly similar cover (and best bike limited to £3k which just about covers it).
I might see if I can get home + bike cover direct from AXA or I might just renew with PC and perhaps drop the excess protection piece which always struck me as a complex addition whose admin cost must be a large proportion of the total premium.

I have a lot of policies with Aviva and when I increase cover, the policy doesn't seem to be affected drastically. We're covered for all bikes, both home and away with £12k covered on my Madone for an extra £24. I seem to recall when I declared the previous lot of bikes which had a max of £5.5k per bike and £15k of cover total was something crazy like £30 per year. Also covers accidental damage but not during racing/time trials.
Having shopped around, assetsure came up with one of the cheapest quotes (still expensive though)... however, I’d be more upset having no cover if the Venge gets smashed, especially with heightened risk racing. Their cover seemed comparable to others.
What I really wanted though was a policy that didn’t cover theft, as highly unlikely, but just covered accidental damage including racing. In the hope it brought price down, but no one does it.
