Apologies for the clickbaity title.

Washing the car last night, didn't see the hose wrapped around the bikes (which were only temporarily moved due to a delivery) and they ended up in a pile. Scott Addict Vs. Norco Fluid was only going to go one way. The "that's a broken carbon frame" noise made me want to cry - The downtube of the Scott fell straight onto the RD of the Norco - the one saving grace is that the wife's bike didn't end up in the same pile and my good roadbike was stored elsewhere.

Frame (to my eyes) is a write off, the bike was relegated to a commuting duties a while ago, but even still, its a bike I love - it's done the NC500 twice and has survived far more abuse as a commuter than it was ever designed to - it didn't deserve to end its life this way.

Weighing up the options, don't think a 8 year old frame that barely gets used can be justifiably repaired and even then, fear of a downtube breaking would make me wary. New frame and swap the (old but reliable) Campag Record over or get a commuting hack on bike to work. On the bright side, I get a new bike. On the downside, goodbye to an great bike.

Might it be covered under accidental damage cover on your home insurance? If you have new-for-old cover you might get a fair chunk back...

Send a few pictures to @re_carb or re-carb @ outlook .com and see what they say, it may be repaired, then try house insurance, hopefully the value will get a reasonable replacement
