Hi all, my old SIDI mtb shoes have finally given up after many many years and i am not after a more trainer style shoe.

However this is where it gets difficult.

I want some that i can use with both clipless shimano pedals so with a cleat, but also that will work with my other bike that has v8 flat pedals, preferably without having to keep removing the cleat.

I have seen the five ten hellcat pro’s and wondered if this would work.

I agree i could get two pairs of shoes, but that is either costing twice as much or losing quality so as long as there is something suitable that will do both safely this is the way i would prefer.

I have some Giro Rumble shoes which I occasionally use on flat pedals too, and they also look relatively normal off the bike too which I find quite useful when cycling to work meetings.

How are they for the cleat interacting with the pedals?

My main concerns are;

Is there enough sole to stick to the flat pedals?

And does the cleat get caught on the flat pedals making it difficult to abandon bike!!

I wear my spd shoes at work everyday. They are Shimano AM5
https://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-am5-am501-mtb-spd...

I clip in to ride to work, clip in to ride home for lunch and the same back to work and home. So couldnt be bothered with swopping shoes all day long. The cleats hide in the soles, so I can walk around. Not too 'trainer like' , although have smart shoes at work for meetings etc. There is enough rubber sole for using flat pedals as well ( or driving our vehicles at work around) , so are really good. I was lucky to find them for about £40 a pair last January , so a lot cheaper than Wiggle are selling currently. Would recommend,

I have hellcats. They are very very stiff, id not want to walk far in them. Dont use them anymore (lasted 5 rides) as I find spds on flats a nightmare when on the mtb and much prefer the spd sl on the road

The clips do recess in the shoe however as i moved the cleats forward over time to be more on the balls of my feet they would make a noise when walking and touch the ground. Further back and that wasn't an issue.

No reason you couldn't use them for flats as well as they have the same sole as the other five ten freerider shoes. They are just stiff and heavy.
