Pinarello Gan

Hello all,

Looking at buying a Pinarello Gan. Before I buy, would you buy it? Would you not? Why not? The new Paris comes out imminently but the Gan I've seen is a good price.

I’d pass in favour of something else, it looks like a Dogma or an F8 but it’s basically a completely different frame made from a different grade of toray carbon and you’re paying a lot of money for that name.

If you want a relaxed, less intense version of a pro tour bike, there are better spec’d, better value for money options out there.

However, If you want an Italian sounding bike with good pedigree and have the cash, why not.

I always start by comparing the Stack : Reach ratio. This will give you an idea of whether it is racy (long and low) or endurance (more sat upright) compared to other bikes.

A good place to start on this is Canyon, for instance, where their Aerobike is longer and lower, and the Endurace is their endurance based option. The Ultimate sits between the two, and has a light weight focus.

This will give you an idea of if the Gan is the sort of bike that roughly suits what kind of riding you're likely to be doing. A proper bike fit will be able to fine tune the fit, but it is easier to start with something that's already close.

I have to look at the actual numbers too, as I'm massive. I only just fit on most bikes, so definitely not built like an Italian Climber.

There is an old joke that is long and rambling about a chap comparing three women that he is dating, trying to decide which one to marry. It goes into great detail about things like how good a cook they are, whether they will make a good mother, their career and earning ability and so on. Then he marries the one with the biggest boobs.

Don't spend too long deliberating, get it, get out riding, enjoy the warm weather.
