Hi

Recently lent my nephew my bike and unfortunately he came off and broke both gear shifters. Am I able to replace with any 3x7 shifters or do they need to be Microshifters again, as can't seem to find any anywhere. What are my options?

Also are they hard to replace yourself? Pic attached but both left and right are smashed.

Advice much appreciated!

If the derailleurs are Shimano then any Shimano 7 speed shifter will work for the rear.

Any Shimano front shifter up to 9 speed should work for the front.

Easy to fit. Plenty guides on YouTube. If the system was working before then it is just s case of getting the cables adjusted after fitting.

After fitting the shifters. For the rear pull the cable tight by hand then lock the bolt securing it.

With chain on small sprocket click rear shifter once. If it doesn't change up turn adjuster to shorten cable.

With 7 speed systems there is often adjusters on the shifter and the derailleur.

Once the derailleur is shifting up with one click take a look from behind the bike. The top jockey wheel hould be directly below the cog on the cassette. If it is obviously off to one side tighten or loosen the cable to centre it.

Once the cable is set properly for the first change the other gear changes will work as well, if everything else is ok.

Other adjustments may need tweaked.
