Cannondale Trail 2, 2020, £1100, had SRAM SX, MT400 brakes, RockShox Judy Gold, and some sort of dropper post.

No direct replacement, you get a Trail SE 2 now at £1200, more money, and spec the same bar forks are silver. Others (Rutland, Wheelbase) want £1299 for it.

I was looking at the Allez on Evans Cycles' website a while back, it was £1050 then. When they got new stock price went to £1125

You'd have to be mental to spend £1200 on that allez. It doesn't even have a full Shimano groupset. Terrible value

I don't understand why they put those awful brakes on their bikes when proper 105 brakes aren't exactly expensive. The chainset looks ok but again is it really worth leaving off the proper Shimano one to save a few £

If you are making 5000 of the things then yeah swaping out some parts is very profitable. An yeah i noticed 100 on most bikes basically the same as last year. Market forces I guess.

Think no Roubaix update for 2021 as updated for 2020. Next update should be 2022......

It’s down compared to last year and importers will be hedging their bets.

Maybe lots of factors, weak pound, high demand, lack of supply, because they can.

There are Indeed lots of factors.

It’s a global industry so is affected by multiple exchange rates.

A bike bought from Taiwan is purchased in USD and sold in the UK in GBP

The bike components will have been purchased in Japanese Yen, Euro, Taiwanese Dollars etc

The mix of all those currencies has an impact.

Wait until September 2021 for the best deals. New bikes come out in late summer very year. Normally old stock goes on sale shortly after. Obviously this year there won't be anything left to put on sale but my assumption is that next year sales will be way down due to high sales this year and there will be lots of surplus stock at the end of the next season.

You also have to bear in mind that they may have issues getting Shimano brakes as no doubt that supply chain will have been hit so there might not be as many 105 brakes out there hence using others.

Very much exchange rates will also play a part. Bikes have always been cheaper to buy in euros and dollars than the exchange GDP amount. They also seem to have more stock than us.

But I have certainly noticed in the gravel market, anything on 105's last year and now on GRX 600's this year are circa £150 more, despite groupset costs being almost the same

I have them on mine and they were absolutely fine, easy to set them up so they were very sensitive, at the time I weighed in at 100kg and they had no problem stopping me.

Agree though 1200 for an Alez is st.

Of course it does, but when things move in our favour prices do not go down.

I think this greed is simply misjudged, yes lots of people have bought bikes, but the highest volume sellers in 2021 will be gumtree and pink bike because fundamentally, people are creatures of habit, and 95% or more of those with new kit won't use them, and won't be repeat buyers.

The 2021 Roubaix has been released, although as you say there’s no update over the 2020 model aside from colour schemes. Rutland Cycling and Specialized Concept Stores are showing stock.

2020 Whyte Stirling, 20 speed 105 was a good deal for a grand.

2021 Whyte Stirling, 10 speed Deore. Same frame. Same price.

Should be some really good second hand bargains around come the winter months... lockdown (hopefully) a distant memory, dark mornings & evenings, awful weather, busy roads; suddenly the idea of cycling for 'newbies' becomes a whole lot less attractive than it was during a heatwave with deserted roads. Many of those bikes that were snapped up in April / May will be up for sale to make space and cash for Christmas.

Apologies for the off-topic tangent. Point taken in the OP though, I do sense a bit of opportunism re 2021 prices. Can't blame them I suppose, supply & demand and all that. They can always reduce prices if needs be later in the year. Consumers will always prefer to see prices drop rather than increase.

The 2021 Roubaix models are mainly new colours but there are also some price changes and spec changes.

I've been following the Expert di2 2020 and after Christmas there was a 20% discount. There are usually larger discounts at the end of season, but this year they're only at 10% due to Covid, less stock to shift (more people bought bikes in Lockdown) and the shock is running out or has gone in certain sizes.

The Expert dropped from £5,400 to £4,750 which looks good on paper until you realise the 2021 model now comes with R470 wheels rather than the C38's on the 2020 model.

I'm now waiting for my discounted 2020 model to arrive.

I sort of agree with you, but there will be nerdy people with spreadsheets trying to factor that in, to make sure they build the right number and ship them to the right places.

They won't get it right, but I don't think they will get it as wrong as they have in the past.

Simple supply and demand. Massive upsurge in Bicycle sales, everything from cheap rubbish on Gumtree being pushed up, through to this nudging the prices up in store on new bikes. And if you've sold out of everything, you dont need to run an end of season sale.

Wait 6 months, if everyone goes back to work, half the UK is redundant, all the lighlty used bikes will be in sheds or for sale, there will be a glut of supply over demand, and prices might drop/big discounts.

If price is the biggest concern for you on a new bike purchase, then I'd suggest buying a the very latest thing at full list RRP from Evans is maybe not the best route to be going down.
