Many moons ago I swapped my mtb tyres for slicks and proceeded to throw out my old tyres in a moment of wisdom.

My nipper is now into cycling, so I'd like to take him out to Dalby forest.

Can I have tyre recommendations for some tyres for ancient 26" wheels please! A good all rounder as I'll be doing a mix of road, gravel road, forests etc.

Thanks!

Schwalbe still do some decent 26" options and I always found the German sites were better for stock. My daughter's last bike had a 26x2.25" Nobby Nic on the front and a 26x2.25 Rocket Ron on the back.

I have Maxxis High Roller 2's in 26 inch diameter and they've been a decent all purpose tyre (but I don't know if they are still available)

I've just put a Schwalbe Nobby Nic on the rear and a Schwalbe Racing Ray on the front of my Pace RC200 F6. They are both 26 x 2.25 and so far, I have to say, I'm really pleased with them. Most of my riding is on dry, loose forest trails with some climbs and a bit of singletrack. The rear tyre gives great traction on the climbs and the front tyre is full of feel, quick to turn and a little twitchy (which I like - the bike is twitchy anyway). They roll really well too. I'd recommend them.

I recently bought Maxxis High Roller 2 and Ardent for my old heckler. Got them from tredz, did take a while to be delivered though but so much better than the Onza Porcupines which I fitted back in 2004!

I'm probably going to go for SCHWALBE Black Jack's for an older 26 inch MTB as they seem to be the go to all round tyre at the lower end

Caveat: I do not know Dalby Forest at all.

But!

Road? Gravel? Forest tracks? Even a road biased tyre will do that job. I have Schwalbe Marathons on my old 26" 'do-it-all' MTB. If you want something with more grip for trails? Try Schwalbe Racing Ralph. Smaller knobbles, quite fast running, but more than grippy enough in dry weather. If you're truly going off road, and planning to ride in wet weather at all, then Schwalbe's Nobby Nic are great tyres. I've also used Maxxis Beaver tyres for winter racing, but they're far more specifically aimed at mud and wet trails so probably a bit much for your use.
