Hello.

I think I might be getting into mountain biking. I have a little cheapy bike and like to get out into the countryside and cycle around a bit. Nothing too challenging, just bridle ways and dirt tracks in the local woods.

However I need some YouTube channels or podcasts on which to binge on and thus encourage me to learn a bit more about the whole scene, teach me some maintenance tips and also allow me to expand on all the cool lingo I need to know.

Ultimately this will also ‘force’ me to spend some money on a proper bike.

Any suggestions?

I've just got into MTB after being more a roadie, GMBN have been useful and interesting. Also a tech channel which can help with maintenance and understanding the parts and tech.

Seth's Bike Hacks and Berm Peak Express, same guy. I think he has become the most popular MTB youtuber with 2 million subscribers. He is brilliant so that's not surprising.

Relatively new to MTB from BMX...I find Matt Jones very watchable (he has a GT3 which makes occasional appearances) and genuine, ads are not too intrusive either.

Blake Samson from GMBN is pretty funny, this tickled me and is a decent example of his content smile

The downtime podcast is good, some interesting interviews with people in the sport. Mainly enduro based but good training and tech info.

The MTB podcast was a great listen, they’re on a hiatus due to life commitments but they have a big back catalogue to get through.

Sam pilgrim on YouTube for doing stupid stuff on bikes always good fun

Epic! biggrin

My son likes watching Sam, and the aforementioned Blake. They are both good fun.

Also worth a watch, if only because you’re sure something should go wrong, even if it’s off screen, is Kyle and April. Kyle is a competent mtb rider who has decided to do tuition vids on the basics. His pupil, though, is his girlfriend, April. The films are pretty good, with some decent hints and tips. But I can’t imagine doing such a thing with MrsPB and surviving, so hats off to them both!

Another vote for Downtime.

I also like the HKT podcast.

VitalMTB can be pretty good too.

If you're just getting into it then watch all the Friday fails vids on Pinkbike which in a lot of cases will show you how not to ride certain things, as well as making you laugh, or wince.

Another vote for Downtime and HKT as well.
