For a road and mtb. Currently going on home insurance but is it worth going elsewhere?

I moved to Laka last year, and they've been really good, based on how easy they were to deal with and how much I've had to pay, which has almost always been less than expected. Haven't had to claim for anything but have heard only good things from those that have.

Edited to add that I've just realise I have a £25 referral code if anyone fancies signing up.

Interested in responses.

Guess home covers you for bike theft from home.

But doesn't cover:
1) Theft when away from home
2) Damage away from home e.g. hit by car, accident or pot hole
3) Medical insurance - dental, recovery
4) Travel insurance - taking bike overseas

What do people choose to cover?

I currently use Laka as my home insurer don’t cover e-bikes.

My contents insures my bikes away from home, is new for old and a chunk cheaper than the specialist companies.

When my bikes were nicked a few years ago AXA were brilliant. Pay out was fast and technically I was better off because some of the bikes were bought second hand but valued as new. I’m not fussed about accidental damage because they’re MTB’s so get crashed etc.

My house insurance is with NFU.

I make sure the limits are enough to cover my bikes on an all-risk (ie Fire, theft flood; plus accidental damage) basis, both in and away from home. I'm also covered for racing but not as a professional (!)

It's just the standard policy.

Pedalcover. Good price, comprehensive house policy, bike cover covers equipment damage/theft as well as the bike of course, and also covers you if you're out and about, including travelling anywhere in the world.

I was covered on my house insurance when I hit a pothole, fell off and my bike was run over by a van. Not really the van drivers fault, more the muppet who floored it and undertook me at traffic lights and spooked me furious

LV paid up within 3 hours, I had a £100 excess. Can't recommend them highly enough. My insurance did go up at renewal by about £150.

All I sent was the photos of the pothole and cut knees/arms, the bent bike, and the receipt for the bike.

Insured my new Whyte 130 c r a couple of weeks ago. It cost £2900.

Insurance on my home policy was £13 with most of what you want covered. Away from home etc. Basically has to locked if you leave it which is fair enough.

Best bike has a specific policy with Velosure - I renewed last month and they were the cheapest on a like-for-like basis.

Other bits are covered with a Barclays home insurance contents policy but set to bikes only. That's just under £5/month to cover all bikes with a maximum single bike value of £3000.

Pedalcover for me, recently reported some cracked rims and put in a claim.

After a quick chat on the phone, most of which was spent going through options on Chain Reaction to work out the cost to replace and agreeing the cash settlement value within 10mins cleared funds for the value in my bank account.

Assetsure for me. My household insurance freaked out when I put the RRP into the system, and assetsure gave me a quote that didn’t make me wince ( too much )

Just put details in to get a quote from Pedalcover, for their House and Bike cover, based on this thread.

Hoping it will be good.

Currently looking at it also.

Assetsure, so far seem best option for me with quote.

Anyone else who races, home insurance won’t cover it.

My NFU home insurance covers me and the bikes for racing, unless I'm a professional.

Also looking at this...

Bought a new road bike last week for £3350, so thought I should look at getting it insured. Pedalcover (takes you to YellowJersey?) want £17.80 per month and Bikmo £15.30 per month.

Will ring up my home insurance later to see how much it costs to put on. Although I guess there is no public liability (if you damage a car) with home insurance?

iirc, if you’re looking for a stand alone bike insurance that’s where they point you, I have all my bikes insured, house contents, buildings contents all with AXA and excesses on all insurance policies with them and then it works out very competive when comparing the market (dot com)!
