Anyone got one?
Love the look of these, are they purposeful or a fad?...

I have a 650b+ or semi fat..... Fat bikes were mainly for snow or sand. My 650b+ is an utter hooligan of a hard tail - rolls over anything. It's mainly my winter mud bike.

Tyres are stupidly expensive though. Looks and rides great.

The child has a Scott with 24” wheels and 2.6 inch tyres.

It’s a brilliant thing if when your 8
I’m considering an adult sized one.

Yes, love it. It's a very blunt tool compared to my Whyte 901 but it's hilarious.

See my buy thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

One issue I've had is that it's like having suspension without damping. So I have fallen off when I took one hand off and hit a bump which bounced the bars round in a way I'm pretty sure wouldn't have happened on my Whyte.

Used to... Some **** nicked it. Most fun bike I've ever owned. Would have replaced it but wanted to tick off rowdy Hardtail and e-bike.

The only negative is they are utterly terrible in mud if you're hauling down hill as the tyres float giving you zero grip. Use them as intended though, and you'll smile 'til your face aches.

Best all round tyres I found were specialized's most aggressive offering. But heavier than the go to jumbo Jim tyre, only slightly more draggy and massively better gtip everywhere.

I had the cube - amazing VFM - with top of the range mastodon forks. Rockshox's FB forks are very noodly for DH and techy black runs.

I will get another, but it will be a Pole. I have their hardtail and love it.

It took me a few takes to work that out. I thought the names were the same!

I don't have one, but frequently hire one where we go on holiday every year. They are a world of fun, but they are heavy!

I had a Norco Torrent with 3.0 tires

Swapped them out for 2.6 which i much preferred.

Depends what you're after, as said they roll over everything. Just have a think about if you want to roll over everything or if you want something a bit more entertaining - my opinion of course.

As big as 3.0 tyres are I don't think they're classed as 'fat', I think they're more like 'plus' tyres, I imagine the Torrent was a 27.5+.

Come on Gompo. Really???

Is the 'roll over everything' comment valid. Because that's what my 3.0's did and what a fat bike does.

Sorry, wasn't meaning to be a dick; I'm still catching up with the various bike fashions of the last 10+ years, was just trying to be informative.

Having ridden 2.8 and 4.8 tyres... It's a very different tiding experience between the two. You're right.

OP, a good litmus test of whether you'll enjoy one...

If you like fast xc / trail, wining at strava, beating your mates up or down something, probably not.

If you like bmx, jumping, trials, DH, or bike packing, probably will.

Got a surly moonlander with 4.8 inch tyres. Bought it specifically for riding in the desert while living in Qatar. It’s great fun and obviously very different from any other bike. Basically steam-rolls over anything. Have also fatbiked through Alaska in the winter. They are best suited where you either need float (sand or snow) or for going totally off track. Compromised everywhere else but still good fun. Wouldn’t t be my only bike in the UK.

Good point, my Gravel Bike on 47s will roll over everything....but it's nothing like the same as the KTM FatBike above.
