Like many I've decided to get back into cycling but cannot find an MTB in stock anywhere.
Has anyone had any joy or know of anywhere that has some stock?

Stock is very low but if you’re flexible on budget/brand/type you should be able to find something easily.

Have you tried the usual?

Wiggle/Chain Reaction, Evans, Halfords, Sigma Sports, Winstanley, Westbrook, Wheelbase, Canyon, Rose, Decathlon...etc etc

I'm struggling to get a bike for my wife atm. There's one on Decathlon she wants, it's in stock all day, with no available build slots. Come 11pm there's a build slot, but no stock. Rinse & repeat.

Considering just buying her a man's bike

This is the downside of a big increase in cycling over the last three months.

I tried to find a mountain bike for my sister last month and we ended up going second hand; even then many people have cottoned on and are asking silly money for utter dross.

I’m trying to find a bike for my son and have noticed the same, my LBS is struggling to get stock and the prices of secondhand half decent stuff is nuts.

I can see some lightly used bargains being available in a few months though...

Finding parts for existing bikes is a pain too. Having trouble finding a bottom bracket for my MTB at the moment. Luckily have a couple of road bikes to go at, but not ideal for when out riding with my daughter.

I have a broken hawk cycles trakatak circa 1991 in my shed. You can have it. Free.
Needs a back wheel, a chain, and TLC.

I walked into my local bike shop last week to find a massive space where all the bikes used to be. They'd pretty much sold out with little chance of being able to re-stock.
There will definitely be no end of year bargains but there will be some decent second hand bikes on ebay come the winter

Lots of stock available but most are click and collect
I bought new bike last week shop had lots of stock but it was in Dewsbury West Yorkshire

https://www.hargreaves-cycles.co.uk/products.php

I think the budget end of the market has sold out but lots still available depends on budget

Edit just looked on web site and they have quite a lot from £400 up but click and collect and they have been rushed off their feet trying to keep up with demand

Yet I’m struggling to sell my carbon FS Mtb, it’s on for a reasonable price, in great condition but at £2k, I think it’s outside of the majority of people’s budgets. Plenty of low ball offers from kids but nothing serious yet.

The £500 bikes are sold out, sub £1,000 is low stock as people have to spend more to get a bike.

I'd expect the end of year sales to be focused on higher end bike £3,000+ as people may start tightening their belts on large outlays as may need tempting.

I went to my LBS two weeks ago with an open mind and permission from the chancellor to up my budget from £1,200 to £2k, if necessary. No joy. Predicted delivery times were 6 to 18 weeks for anything they sold under £4K.
Then the owner had a moment, remembered he had the ideal 60cm framed Cube out the back. Last year’s model, suited me fine, and a heck of a discount, somehow.
Lucky. Very very lucky.

Finally got sorted. Trek Roscoe 8. Had to spend a fair whack more than I wanted too but excited for delivery now!

I didn't even bother trying to get one from their warehouse due to their stupid system plus the delivery charge because there's no option to send it to a store other than one of their designated Click n Collect stores (how does sending it to a non-designated store differ from walking into that same store and buying one from stock...?!).

I phoned around to find a store with the bike I wanted and got lucky that there was one available at a store less than an hour from me.

I was looking at secondhand from Ebay but they're going for silly money i.e. 4/5yo bikes going for +90% of brand new RRP.

So I bit the bullet, upped my budget and bought brand new. Not sure I would've done that though had I not found such a well-specced bike.

Do you mind me asking what you're selling? I snapped the frame on my 17 year old Marin last week and I'm now struggling to find a replacement.

Ordered a new Cannondale eMTB last Wednesday, just had notification it’ll be with me on Thursday this week.

From my searching over the past week, Evans seem to have the most stock of anyone - if you want a bike sooner rather than later.
