I saw something similar being ridden a few days ago. I could swear it had a disc brake, too. I never thought unicycles had brakes.

i guess that is one of my points - I can't think of anything worse than a little downhill section where it must be a fixie and the legs go like pistons up and down...

if it has a 'disc brake' where is the lever mounted?

I simply dont understand.

Ahh it seems they are fixies - and "if" fitted with a brake - the lever is on the back of the seat :

I still dont understand however

I can’t see how putting the brake on doesn’t result in a face plant.

I'd love to have a go on a uni cycle! How hard do you think it is to learn? Anyone tried it?

Lots of us ride for fun and this is just a different challenge! Like swapping suspension forks for rigid. You won't be as quick, but it's a different sort of fun.

They are great fun. I bought one a long time ago. I did manage to get riding it but never really mastered it.

The mountain unicycles are referred to as a Muni. I wouldn't say they are hypster as they have been around for probably 20years. There are a few different types of unicycles. For example, cokers for commuting and long distance (big wheel), giraffe for circus/clowns (very tall) etc.

In fact, I may go and dust mine off in the garage and see if I can vaguely remember how to do it. I'm only 20 years older and fatter. What can go wrong?!

Edited to add:Look at Ed Pratt's youtube channel. He rode one around the world; ~22 000 miles.

I read, and it matched my experience, that it takes about 20 hours to be able to ride a unicycle forwards consistently and be able to steer where you want to go. I never managed the on-the-spot thing that jugglers do.

Sleeping helps though, so a few hours here and there is much better than taking a whole weekend out to learn.

To be fair
He only got it out the boot of the car and mounted it there at Square Corner
So not sure how much of the Cleveland way was planned - it was nigh on 6pm as it was

Well, I can still ride it. I pumped up the very flat and cracked tyre and managed to ride it around the close a few times. I had a few strange looks but I'm used to those. Great fun but exhausting. If you have poor core strength and a very inflexible back it seems to be a really good way to get exercise.

Any other uni-riders in the land of PH? Show us what you have got?

Am I the only person in the world of PH to occasionally ride unicycles? Bumpity bump.
