Started riding again recently and dug out the Venge. It’s 2012 so knocking on and is running 25c tyres. Great bike, handles perfectly and always fun...The issue is, it’s very uncomfortable all of a sudden.

Used to be ok, back when my sit bones were hard, but after the mtb, God above it’s awful. Choices are new shorts, suffer for a few weeks and see.

Otherwise, switch to tubeless or look at a newer aero bike which will run 28’s or larger..have they changed that much comfort wise? It’s 10 speed mechanical shift so no point in selling.

First ride on a road bike after a few months or years off always hammers the sit bones.

Shorts have improved quite a lot over the years as well.

Change one thing at a time, starting cheap.....
Lower the tyre pressures
Try latex tubes
Go to 28c tyres if you can
Try different shorts, yes
Try a different saddle
If you suffer on the front end;
Double wrap bar tape
Try gloves with gel inserts

A new bike is way down the list unless you want one and need the excuse, but if you do, take the opportunity to get much bigger tyres....

So today the chamois cream arrived. Ordered Cargo Bib Shorts despite never liking Rapha...someone on here gave them a big shout so thought ‘why not’? Never seen cycling shorts with pockets and the core versions are £110. I guess we’ll see smile All other bibs are probably between 5-9K old anyway.

Miles in the saddle will improve things, just a case of getting used to it again

Apart from that 28 tyres should make things a little comfier

Apart from that - yes, n+1, why not?! biggrin

Strangely today was a massive improvement. I’m quite looking forward to new shorts though...ones with pockets smile

The bigger issue is lack of fitness. It’s horrible.
