MTB bottom bracket question; crank or BB?
Discussion
I'm doing a cheap refurb of an old Dawes Edge XT i had as a kid that's been sat at the back of the garage.
The old LX crank is knackered so i bought a new Acera FCM361 tapered crankset to replace it. The new crankset however now fouls the frame at the lowest sprocket - now, do i need a need (wider) bottom bracket or are there old 'spacers' or similar i need to get the new crank to fit?
Apols daft question, i just want to be clear before i end up buying a new BB remover tool or other old pointless bits i don't actually need.
Cheers,
Ash

Don’t think there is an option for extenders. Think normal standard was 68mm and 73mm for the bottom bracket itself, you could measure the frame to get this and then various options for different axle lengths. I assume you don’t have the old BB to measure?
I do, the old BB is there and it looks like a 70/110m but the crank is different in that the new crank is more recessed as it sits on the spindle, whereas the old LX crank has a flange that takes it proud of the smallest chain-ring.My guess is to just replace the BB with a wider one.
