Hi

I am looking to have the whole frame and forks of my 1983 BMX re-chromed.

Lots of places are able to do just the forks but not the frame, the one place I have found who can do the whole bike is somewhat expensive (£750).

Does anyone know of a place that would be able to do a good re-chroming job for less?

Thanks

I'd speak to Argos frames in Bristol, as lots of vintage bikes have areas of chrome on dropouts, so they must know who to do this work.

The worst thing you can do to a frame is chrome it - and that's not just my opinion. Not good for a frame (if you want it to last), much better to paint it.

I can personally recommend this long established plater:
Prestige Electro-plating
Metal finisher in Mexborough, England
Address: Unit 6 Cliff St, Mexborough S64 9HU
Phone: 01709 577004 -- no web presence --
Has done perfect work for me on my Merckx & is the first port of call for classic motorbike chaps who are fussy buggers. I think they'd plate an entire mini cooper for £750 .....
I think you could courier there & back.

Karl Russel at Quality chrome in Hull

Best in the country. Loads of very high quality work in the scooter scene.

Thanks julianm and Brads67, I will give them both a call on Monday.

Fastpedeller, never heard that before and I can appreciate it may be the case, but it was originally chrome and I bought it to be a chrome BMX. It will not have a hard life so should be OK.

Like all the 60's Italian road bikes that still get used you mean smile

I have metal parts chromed in the early 60's that are still perfect.
