Can someone brighter than me tell me what is the field showing 76º in below screenshot supposed to represent, please? It's not temperature, so what the heck is it?

Where are you currently based? Is it latitude or longitude? (regardless of what it is, it's a bit random, isn't it?)

It's a screenshot from Garmin's manual. In my case it keeps jumping (but on a sly so I don't know when exactly) from low 10's to high 90's. No clue what the fudge that is. It wouldn't make sense if it was temperature.

well that rules out a compass heading too.

It’s temperature in Fahrenheit.

This is my 520 which is configured for Celsius. Garmin being American, the manual shows Fahrenheit.

And here’s the shot from the manual

33C doesn't equal 76F though.

Mine is now showing 22 on the top and 19 in the weather section. Does Garmin 530 have a temperature sensor?

If that's the case then that's an impressive temperature range!

The devices always display rubbish to start until they get a decent temperature reading. High 90s will be because it's in direct sunlight, again, means the sensor goes a bit screwy.
I noticed this in the winter, although I have a Giant Neostrack computer. It starts up quickly, so I only turn it on as I get on the bike, the Giant computer would show a lot warmer temp than it really was for at least 10 minutes.

They show the temperature of wherever they've been sitting before switch-on. They're also programmed to avoid wild fluctuations in temperature so if you watch the temperature it only updates every 30s, or something like that, and slowly adjusts to the ambient as can be seen here from a winter ride where the garmin was inside charging prior:

Temperature at the top of the screen is from the device temperature sensor, and yes, the 530 has one. Temperature in the weather section is the temp in the weather forecast downloaded from the internet via your paired phone.
OK, that explains it then. Thanks. It's a shame they had to remove the F/C from the number on top.
