Recently I've been riding my 1999 Scott mtb.
It's got a 27 speed Shimano deore lx drive train.

The chain is worn and needs replacing. It has hg72 stamped on the master link but I'm having difficulty finding a direct replacement.

I've found a Shimano hg71 chain, can I use that?

TIA..

No, the HG71 is for 6 to 8 speed cassettes. You can use any 9 speed chain. Eg Shimano hg93, Sram PC951 or PC971.

Don't worry about using a different brand chain with a Shimano set up. It's just the number of speeds that's important. The chains have a different width depending on the number of speeds your cassette has

Just a 9spd chain mate.

I'd reccomend a KMX X9 smile

Depending on how worn the cassette is, you might need a new one of them as well

KMC are good chains.

Decathlon sell four 9-speed chains. Priced between £9.99 and £24.99. Two by KMC, one by Shimano, and one branded as "BTwin", Decathlon's in-house brand. Don't be fooled into paying more though. The £9.99 BTwin 9 speed chain is also made by KMC. It says as much on the side plates...

wink

Comes with a quick-link too, for easier fitting.
