I'm quite getting into enjoying my new bike and want to start recording my rides and viewing speeds / direction / simple maps / planning routes etc.

At the moment i'm doing this via my phone stuck in my pocket and having to dig it out if I need to check anything.

So i'm thinking I either get a decent mount for my phone or spend a little more and get a dedicated computer - nothing too serious as i'm not going to be doing 7/8 hours in the saddle so battery life on my phone isn't really an issue either.

So i'm looking at either new or preowned - but it seems I can do any of the below for around £80-£130

1: Buy a decent phone mount - quad lock seems the go to option. But it's £45 quid just for for the case & holder.

2: Garmin 130 - On offer new for £99

3: Lezyne Super GPS - seem to be readily available pre-owned or even brand new for around £100

4: Elemnt Bolt - More expensive, hold their value well it seems, but does seem to be well respected.

Any views on any of the above?

I tried using my phone with strava app on a handlebar mount . Then decided to stop pissing about and bought an element bolt. Very happy with it so far.... job jobbed.

I've got the Lezyne Super GPS, £100 brand new from Evans Ebay, works well, does everything, and has a really long battery life.

Yeah I saw that option, also available from a different seller as the white model for £85.

I have a local preowned one near by for £65 too

I bought an Edge 130 a few weeks ago and have been impressed with it, really clear display despite the size (it has more pixels than a 1030) and easy to link HR and PWR, battery life seems good.

I don’t really use routes and need mapping though which is the main downside of the 130 as it has a very basic map display.

But even the basic mapping is enough really, it got me round a brand new route the other day, and my mate used it to map is 110 miles through the Chilterns on brand new roads to both of us a couple of weeks back.

To me, its a great unit, weighs nothing, battery actually is good, and it does almost everything (that people actually use) that the expensive ones do.

Good to know re mapping.

Yeh I agree, for £99 it’s brilliant.

62g lighter than my old 800 too hehe
