Just got back on the road again after a couple of years out.

So, flashing front lights, are they a good idea or bad?

From being a motorcyclist I am in the camp of "anything that helps you get seen is a good thing"

As long as they are angled down so as not to dazzle drivers!

I have mine front light on and solid all the time. My rear light is on and solid in the day and on and flashing at dusk/night

Horses for courses I guess smile

Depends where, if I'm cycling in an urban environment and there's a possibility I'll be tired (e.g when I was cycling to and from the train station as part of my commute) one solid one flashing, just to give others a fighting chance of seeing me when I might have too much to concentrate on to spot their stupidity

Rural I'm far more worried about rear visibility. Most accidents from infront can be avoided with defensive riding in my experience, as long as your observations are up to scratch

I only run a front light in winter as my summer bike has aero bars and it's a pain to find a light that fits well. I run a rear flashing light every time I go out though.

Not always. I'm always out in brightly coloured tops on quiet Somerset roads. If I venture onto a B road, or heaven forbid.......an A road, then I'd always put it on flashing. If it's rubbish visibility, low cloud etc then it'll always be on solid............

Rear light is always on flash in the daytime, every ride smile

I see loads of cyclists out in the New Forest. many run flashing lights during the day, and as a fellow cyclist I think it works to draw attention to them earlier. I don't always use mine though. Mostly I save it for cloudy days when I'm on roads where I'm in and out of the shadow of trees, where it makes the most difference. Same with the 'Day Flash' mode on the rear light really. I always ride with lights fitted, but use them as sparingly as I can to preserve battery life (I often stay out later than I'd planned, hence always riding with at least one light fitted each end).

Flashing front and rear every ride/any light conditions.

I often use a local urban 'multi-user' path/trail with a lot of walkers on it and the flashing front light really helps them spot me approaching.
