Apologies for the link - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8317093/T...

Have a watch of the video, the calm cool reaction of the 17yr old lad really makes the old biddies look like loons. It's also the first time I've ever seen the readers of the Daily Mail side with a cyclist.

What a couple of vile old harridens.

There is certain subset of the population who are absolutely loving the current situation and are revelling in behaving like that pair.

Good on the lad for staying calm and reasonable.

Next time they try some st like that they might not be so lucky.

Have had similar indents on the MTB trails in woods local to me recently. the landowners turn a blind eye to the trails (which have developed over years with no issues) and are not part of the footpath or bridleway network. Somebody was stringing wires up between trees.

Trouble is since lockdown the woods and surrounding area have been really busy with locals going for walks- normally the area is deserted and walkers stay off the mtb trails- so someones obviously had a run in with a biker coming down a trail and decided to take revenge.

It's even worse here, the imbecilic forestry commission were actively digging up the trails in our woods two weeks ago. Police were out trying to fine people too - those that were complying with the law... A different issue.

It wouldn't have been so bad had they put some signage up saying that's what they were doing.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the first bit they'd trashed was at the start... It wasn't... It was 100m down the trail at the first feature.

I eventually passed the fkwit doing the digging. They were starting at the bottom of the trail and working their way up... Again no sign at the top warning of forestry works.

Not only did it serve zero purpose...local Kids were back in that evening effecting repairs...It was downright dangerous. If someone had come down the trail, they'd have collected the foresty idiot at 20mph. Very real risk given they couldn't have known.

Amazed at how calm the lad was through all that.

Some irony that their names and the video are plastered all over the Daily Fail, since they seem like core demographic!

Privately owned local woodland near us, but again full of pathways and trails. Some lads have obviously put some decent effort into the trails. The bridge the lads built across the stream went missing at the weekend.

I suppose they would prefer that the youngsters hung out in town being anti social instead of staying fit and enjoying themselves.

Some people are just miserable like that. We are cyclists therefore they hate us.

Many years ago I was in Wales mountain biking. A group of us came around the corner on a road, not a trail, and found a woman of similar age to those in the vid walking down one side of the road and her dog on one of those extendable leads walking down the other. We managed to stop before we got tangled in the lead stretched across the road, the dog would have been a goner if we'd hit the lead and it wouldn't have done us any good either. Then some how it was our fault! !

We have had incidents , but not recently in Greenham Common. Being a common , it is open to all, but someone ( and I believe it is only one or two perpetrators) used to bend saplings over across the trails at head height and usually on corners. Not only does this destroy the trees, it also causes a risk. We did have wire across trees at a similar time, but that thankfully stopped as quickly as it started after being put in the local rag. Suspecting they being the same aged generation as the 2 old trogs above and hopefully they are 6ft under now.

Small local woods near me had branches across tress and logs along the ground not sure if it was just for MTBs as some motocross lads had been in as well but they were more of an obstruction for a mountain bike.

I think people like that don't care specifically about cycling, they just hate people doing anything fun at all!

Just watched the video, what a pair of raving munters! laugh

There are trails a few minutes from where I live which have had logs and branches out across them during the lockdown almost daily. The trails are quite remote and run between fire roads and don’t really link anywhere. There’s no features in them and you’d have to look for them to use them. (I’d understand if someone built some north shore!)
There’s been a lot more walkers over there since lockdown, it can’t be a coincidence. Never had this problem before, some of the trails are 10+ years old.
The thing is, anyone half decent on a bike will hop over a log or branch but some inexperienced or young rider could potentially have an off. Just hope nothing gets tied between two trees..

I've had abuse thrown at me for cycling in the woods over the back from where i live, been told all sorts ranging from you're breaking the law and we afre reporting you to this is my land so i'll have you arrested.
I\ve lost count of the amount of people i've had to tell it's a bridleway so i'm allowed to be on it if i choose to.

The thing is, i'm courteous and if someone is walking on it, i'll stop and let them get clear before carrying on, or go a different way but still they think it's 'their land' or i'm somehow 'breaking the law' yet when the wife and i are walking the dog through there, surprise surprise nobody says a word. Mind you, i do live slap bang in the middle of a chav infestation so not surprised really
